What a very special place to stay. Worth the trip just for the chance to stay here. The attention to detail in this beautifully restored historic building is a treat. And then there’s the wonderful bookshop downstairs…

“Super comfortable stay with a slice of Icelandic history 💕”
Lovely traditional Icelandic property. It feels like living a bit of history. Flateyri is such a beautiful place and the old bookstore so iconic that it was a privilege to stay here. Super comfortable bed and a very helpful and responsive host. We loved it!

“Wonderful stay in a 1898 original house.”
It was self service breakfast - the fridge was stocked with styr, cheese, ham, jam and breads. Fabulous spread and we enjoyed the flexibility to have all these good things in the fridge.

“Perfect lodging in a serenely peaceful location.”
A very quaint and sensitively restored property housing the oldest continuously operating bookshop in Iceland with a suite of three rooms above sharing breakfast and bathroom facilities. Stuffed with antiques and a completely authentic 1960s or maybe 50s kitchen. The refrigerator is loaded with excellent quality breakfast goodies that you can help yourself to. The staff are simply wonderful. You must visit the bookshop on your visit, it is one of the most stylish and thoughtful shops in Iceland, possibly Europe.

“a little journey through time”
Unique accommodation with a lot of charm. Reminded me a lot of my grandmother's flat. Self-catering breakfast with a good selection. Rooms and beds were comfortable. The village is also charming. Definitely the better choice to sleep here rather than in overcrowded Isafjordur.

“Best place for a romantic stay in the Westfjords”
This is a hidden gem in heart of Flateyri. We spent there a romantic New Years Eve and we were more than amazed by this beautful experience. It is a family run bookstore/accommodation business for decades with nicely preserved antique interior. Host gave us a quick tour in the building. Kitchen was full of kitchenware, spices, sweets and food for breakfast. Lots of books, boardgames, guitar to play and so on. This is one of 2 best places in Vestfirdir for a romantic stay.

This is a place with "soul". You can recognize right away how much love for details and work the owners put into it. It is just so cosy that you do not want to leave again. We also got a very warm welcome from Ágústa, who was so helpful. I can highly recommend this place.

“Interesting guest house above oldest store in Iceland”
The village of Flateyri is quiet in mid-September, and some businesses, such as a well-known restaurant, are closed for the season. The Old Bookstore is an interesting place and probably the main draw for tourists in the village, as it is the oldest store in Iceland, having been owned by the same family for over 100 years. The store itself is small, with a good selection of books on Iceland (in English), as well as quite a few stationery and gift items. There are some shelves of used books as well. The rest of the lower level of the house is a museum (pay to enter) which shows how the owners lived in the early 20th century. Upstairs are a dining area, a sitting area, and three guest rooms which share two bathrooms, one with a tub, the other a shower. Our small room had a sink with soap and towel. The place is charmingly decorated with photos and artifacts. The breakfast included in the room rate is self-serve from the cupboard and refrigerator in the shared kitchen. There is coffee, tea, bread, skyr, fruit, meat and cheese on offer. The village is interesting to explore, with a cafe serving good fish soup. Painted on various buildings in the village are large images of birds made by an American artist living locally. The location on the fjord has good views of the water and mountains.
