Overview

Nutheim Gjestgiveri is a family-run wooden hotel built in 1877. The hotel’s view over the Flatdal Valley is famous and has attracted painters and artists for generations. Still the hotel has an artistic atmosphere with original artwork on the walls and in the romantic garden surrounding the hotel. The four course dinner at Nutheim is made of local ingredients and gives the food a homemade feeling that matches the welcoming home-feeling from the hostess presenting the food and the history of the hotel. Dinner is served with excellent wine or beer from the hotel’s own microbrewery. The breakfast buffet is traditional for Telemark and includes homemade bread and jam. The hotel lounge has a fireplace. Outside there is a terrasse, an old garden with a pond and a spa with sauna and an outside jacuzzi. The hotel also has two galleries presenting art exhibitions. The rooms in the hotel all have on suite bathrooms. The hotel also rents out old traditional on suite wooden cabins placed throughout the large property. All the rooms have free WiFi. Nutheim Gjestgiveri is surrounded by hiking trails and old scenic routes for bike lovers. Nutheim is less than an hour's drive from Bø Sommarland Water Park, the Telemark Canal and Gaustatoppen.

You will not find many similar places in Norway. Add it to your bucket list.

A perfect, historic place, run by the same family in four generations. Beautiful location, a wealth of art on the walls. Exceptional quality of the four-course dinner.

Strongly recommend this place!

Staff was super friendly, place was very beautiful and clean, and food was excellent. The views and surrounding areas are breathtaking. By far, this is the best place that we’ve stayed in Norway; strongly recommend it!

Wonderful stay in an historic hotel owned and operated by several generations was very special.

The breakfast was simple and good. The location allowed for several days of exploration and was beautiful in itself. What really makes this hotel is the staff, particularly the owner who is an outstanding chef and Leo who is from southern Spain whose personality and dedication are a rare treasure.

A short but very pleasant and artistic experience (food, location, architecture, paintings)

The 4 course dinner was wonderful and I loved the poem that was told as part of the introduction to the meal. I like the concept of a single seating with a delicious fixed menu and wine package. The view is of course fantastic and the staff were all very friendly.

Excellent food, comfortable bedding. outstanding service made our stay memorable!

The breakfast bar was exceptional! We loved the varieties of bread and jams/jellies. Wonderful meats for the breakfast sandwiches. Loved the classical music and the candlelight for breakfast. The best thing was it was my birthday, and you made it truly magical!

Great place but terrible breakfast.

Amazing experience to live in an old timber cottage. You get a feeling of old Norway here.

Delicious food with personal service!

The four course dinner was delicious and beautifully presented! Ellen, the owner, told us the interesting history about the area before dinner. The next day she gave us a tour of the parsonage and chapel, which had been her childhood home. She made our stay so personal and special. It was a rainy fall day outside but inside it was cozy and we were able to sit by the fire for a relaxing morning.
