A place right on the shores of Wadi El Rayan — a true oasis in the middle of the desert. LOCATION Situated right by the lake, with its own spacious grounds, it gives you the feeling of being in the desert and an oasis at the same time. The waterfall is only 1.5 km away — just a 5-minute drive. PARKING You can park your car right in front of your room. There are wheelchair ramps available; we had no trouble reaching our room with our elderly mother. ROOMS Spaciou and comfortable — 3 or 4 people can stay with ease. FOOD & ATMOSPHERE The food is delicious. In the evenings, a Bedouin night is held around the fire with special aromatic teas served. Breakfast is a truly authentic Egyptian local experience. ACTIVITIES Sandboarding, felucca rides, and horse riding are all available without leaving the property. You only need to leave for the safari and other key spots in the area. The safari apparently covers all the important points within the National Park — we unfortunately didn't get to try it due to limited time. STAFF Hithem, the manager, stands out with his warm and helpful communication style, making your stay noticeably more enjoyable. The rest of the staff are equally kind and welcoming. GOOD TO KNOW • The hotel is located within a National Park, so if you're driving yourself, foreign visitors are charged a $10 entry fee at the gate, while Egyptian citizens pay 25 Egyptian Pounds (payable by credit card). • May–June can be extremely hot; we were only able to do outdoor activities after 5 PM. November–April is said to be the ideal period.

Sleeping in a tent in the desert by the lake - it doesn’t get better. Beautiful location, great food. Lovely staff. We really enjoyed the 4 x 4 trip to the Valley of the Whales and the magic lake.

The owner upgraded our room from the tent to room, and it was quite nice. also the view from the hotel was really nice. they were flexible to give us an option to book a tour to magic lake only in the morning. Really nice experience. The food was good also.

I booked for a tent, but staff/manager offered a free upgrade to room. Price included dinner and breakfast. Both were very rich and delicious. Lake Rayan waterfall in walking distance. Quiet environment.

“Amazing Month-Long Trip to Egypt, but our Stay at Tacho-by-the-Lake was Horrific!”

At Tache-by-the-Lake we were greeted by three young guys who didn’t speak English. The only way we could communicate verbally with anyone working there was by talking to the absentee owner/manager on the phone. We were booked for three days and two nights, in the hopes of exploring the National Park and the whale skeletons in Wadi Al Hittan. The hotel vehicle was unavailable, but the owner/manager said he would arrive the following morning. There was not much to do on-site without a vehicle, so we walked around the hotel, noticing all the garbage. Tache-by-the-Lake is situated in the desert, and the sand around the buildings is full of litter and broken glass. We walked down to the lake, and discovered that it too was full of garbage! No one bothers to keep the area clean! The room was quaint and clean, however the bathroom lacked such niceties as shampoo and conditioner. Units have an attached porch, which also had litter and ashtrays full of cigarette butts from previous guests. The following day no one showed up to provide us with a vehicle/driver, and we were told we would have to wait until our last day to obtain one. Disappointed, we decided to walk to the waterfall area, and the rest of the day was spent amongst the sand and garbage. The place seemed oddly empty with the exception of the young guys we met on arrival, who also did the cooking. Food was good but service was lacking. Tea or coffee was never offered, and when we requested coffee at breakfast, it took forever to arrive. Desert campfires were never offered, so there was nothing to do at night.

This place is beautiful and the vue is amazing with the desert and the lake in front of you. The safari trip to wadi al hitan was just perfect and the guide from the hotel did also some sand dune bashing on his way. The food is good. The place is so quiet and you can relax a lot. A real pleasure to be there.

The view is amazing and also you can do a lot of activities like sand boarding, trip on the lake. It is near the waterfall wadi al rayad. The safari 4D drive to wadi al hitan and magic lake was absolutely fabulous. The guide and driver did a lot of effort. He did also some sand dune bashing with us. The kids loved it.
