It is only a ten minute walk to the town. It is an old fashioned building that has a charm about it. Juan, the hotel manager is helpful and friendly.

The hotel is located a short walking distance from the city center, easy to park in front of the hotel & leave the car and walk to the city. There is a gas station & super market nearby. The hotel might be a little bit dated, but Juan is doing an exceptional work, the rooms are extremely clean and he is always available for any questions / requests.

Lying just outside Ezcaray opposite the fuel station. Welcomed on arrival by a (very) big friendly dog called Bacchus. Juan wasn't on reception but room keys for expected guests were left for you to collect. Speaking via google translate to the very welcoming owner Juan he explained the hotel was very much in the early days of building up. Breakfast is simply pastries, coffee and orange juice (he has no license at the moment to prepare food, if I understood things properly) but there is a fridge and microwaves available in a cafe-like area for guests to use. Supermarket (Lupa) is 50metres away and the municipal swimming pool is next door. The bustling town is a short walk away with plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants.

I am travelling across Spain on my motorbike and from the moment I arrived Juan could not have been more friendly or helpful. The hotel is basic but it's clean and the bed is was very comfortable and my room had a small balcony with mountain views. I stayed an extra night and felt very much at home staying here. Juan showed me great routes to ride my motorbike. It has a supermarket next door and petrol station opposite. 10 mins walk into town there are plenty of restaurants. Juan is always available to help with anything and he rjns the place on his own with his lovely dog Baku 😊 I will definitely come back!

“Everything great - except the room itself”

I liked Juan the owner, the downstairs is tastefully done, nice coffee in the morning from a proper old school Gaggia coffee machine and crossants etc, all included in the price. Bed was comfy and warm, there was no noise from outside. Ezcaray is great. But thank goodness the room was only 40 euros because I was disappointed with it. The room was cold (no aircon or heating) and the window was broken and wouldn't close properly. I put my coat on and eventually just went to bed to stay warm! But the main problem was that I could hear the conversations from the couple next door. So please make sure you get a room with no neighbours if you want to sleep well. Shower ran hot and cold and shelves and TV were at a bit of a wonky angle. There is a very big (and gentle) dog who is the focal point of the hotel so if you like dogs then great - but if you don't then you need to know this. In short I would recommend this hotel to those on a budget but as long as you aren't really expecting a "hotel room". It might be just right if you've been in hostels or dormitories and want one step up.

The owner and host is a lovely lively man and his dog is gorgeous. Nothing was a problem and I felt incredibly welcome.

The owner Juan is a welcoming kind and helpful host. His vision is to have a eco friendly hotel and very refreshing to see how he doing this. Room was simple, clean and bright with a balcony. Quiet. Very economical and excellent value for money and would say deserves more than 1 star rating. Communal areas to sit in and some parking outside.

“El Trueno, a delightful small and very friendly hotel”

We found this little hotel absolutely wonderful. The proprietor, Juan, was exceptionally friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel was within easy walking distance of a good choice of bars and restaurants, shops if necessary. Many small beautiful villages and wineries in this area, so no lack of things to do, places to visit. Breakfast was a bit limited due to kitchen refurbishment, but always plenty tea,coffee, and breakfast pastries

Juan looked after us from the minute we arrived. He gave us indications for everything we might needed. The rooms where fantastic, far better than the pictures, and in the morning there's a continental breakfast at the bar.

The proprietor makes it clear that the hotel is old and a bit tired and that renovations are underway. It is in a beautiful place and extremely good value for money. He is absolutely charming and happy to help in anyway.

“Wonderful- pets are welcome”

Everything was great! Location is wonderful with 5-10 minutes walk to the town. Parking is possible in front of the building. The mattress, pillows and room temperature were perfect. Breakfast with bread and coffee is offered for free. It is very clear that constant renovations are taking place. Our dogs were welcome, enjoyed the garden and we had the privilege to meet Vaca and Don Gato. But above all, we enjoyed the warmness and friendliness of Juan. Perfect stay! Juan makes you feel at home, offered us a complimentary breakfast, lovely! Spotlessly clean room and allows dogs. A nice garden and areas to sit in and relax. Everything perfect! Best hotel I've ever been at, ignore the one star. Ezcaray a beautiful town with plenty of hikes and amazing restaurants
