“The views are incredible - the best location for a trip to Ella”

We love Saddle Cottage! We couldn’t recommend it enough. The view is exceptional. This was our first stop on a 2 week trip and 3 nights was perfect. It is located a little out of Ella town and can feel difficult to get to by looking at Google Maps, but it’s a really quick and straightforward 10 minute walk along the train tracks (just bring a torch for the evening). When we arrived, we were dropped off at the top of the road, walked 5 minutes downhill and Saddle’s wonderful owners were there to meet us to escort us along the final 100m. They couldn’t have been more welcoming. There’s only 2 rooms (both en suite) and you get a fantastic balcony with an incredible view to look at. Breakfast is delicious, changing every day and made even more special by the incredible views of the valley. Why would anyone stay in Ella town and miss these views!! The accommodation is quite basic, but is clean, bed is comfy, room is large and you’re provided with an adequate room fan, mosquito net and fresh towels. The view from the shower is as good as from the bed! So affordable and our favourite stop of the trip - thank you Saddle.

This was maybe the most beautiful place I stayed at in all of Sri Lanka. The view is breathtaking, the breakfast beautiful and the hosts super nice!

“Great location in the middle of nature”

The view is stunning and you are really in the middle of nature. So many birds to watch from the balcony and you hear nature all day. The host family are the sweetest and they really try and help accomodate.

The location, view, the owners, everything was great!! They do everything to make you happy. Even laundry! 10 minute walk over the trainrail to Ella centre. Two lovely appartements with terras, beautiful view on the valey and waterfall. Good breakfast.

This was by far the best accommodation during my travels in Sri Lanka. It's easily the world's most beautiful balcony, with incredible views of the valley, Ella Rock and waterfalls. It's lush and green, quiet and you will be visited by hummingbirds, peacocks, squirrels and fireflies. The owners are incredibly friendly, warm and welcoming. I extended my stay 2 times.

We enjoyed our stay at Saddle Cottage, the view is incredible and we got fresh, traditional breakfast every morning. Even on our last day, when we had to leave at 4am they prepared some breakfast to go, the family is just too kind. The owner also offers a driving service with his own Tuk Tuk, which we used and were more than happy about it. The family really makes you feel welcomed and we were happy to be their guests!

It’s a welcoming family home with two rooms available on the upper floor, and right in front there’s a spectacular terrace with views of a waterfall. The family is delightful and prepares breakfast for you every morning. By walking along the train tracks (something very common in Ella), you can reach the center of town in just about 10 minutes. Highly recommended—we absolutely loved our stay!

The owners of this guesthouse are incredibly kind! As a solo female traveler, I felt very welcome and safe here. The upstairs rooms are very clean, comfortable, and have everything you need. The surroundings are peaceful and quiet, which makes it a very pleasant place to stay. To get to Ella town it’s easiest to take a tuk tuk, but the owner even offered to bring me himself. I decided to stay an extra night, and the downstairs room was less comfortable compared to the upstairs ones, but I’m not sure if they usually rent it out. The breakfast was well prepared and very tasty, and the owner even took me out for a day to show me around, which was a good experience. Overall, I can highly recommend this place!

We stayed for three nights at the place. The room worked fine. It was clean and cozy. The host family made the stay special, with their unusually friendly and welcoming manner. The location of the place was great, it took 15 minutes to walk to the city. The view from the balcony was amazing. We had a view of the valley, the mountains and a beautiful waterfall. We would definitely recommend this wonderful place.

The family that own the place could not have been friendlier! He can take you anywhere with his tuktuk. Breakfast is always handmade and plentiful. The views are stunning, and the place is only 10 minutes from the main street if you walk along the train track. Nice experience!
