“Peaceful stay”

Great stay! Very peaceful and relaxing accommodation with beautiful surroundings! Host is very friendly, responsive and helpful. Breakfast is the best I’ve had so far in Sri Lanka with omelette, roti and a smoothie. Also, very cuddly pets! Path is dark at night but still felt very safe (coming from a female), but you need a torch.

Where to even begin?! I had the BEST stay at Home Hostel Ella. The owner of the hostel, Thudi (apologies if I have spelled that incorrectly!) was so kind and welcoming. On my first day, he took me and two other guests to a waterfall, for a special lunch with a local family, and to a temple. The place is right next to tea plantations and away from the hustle and bustle, but a short walk through the tea fields into town. You get a delicious breakfast every morning prepared by Thudi, there is a water filter to fill up your bottle, and hot showers. Thudi’s lovely cat Charlie and loyal dog Lesse are always there to welcome you into their cosy home. I had SO much fun here and met some wonderful people, and to top it off, this hostel is incredible value for money. I will be back sooner rather than later. Don’t hesitate, just BOOK. Some previous guest wrote ‘One more night’ at the wall of Home Hostel. It’s so accurate - it’s hard to leave this place. I kept extending my stay and ended up by staying the double of what was my original plan, from three to six nights, haha. The vibe at Home Hostel is very relaxed. Thjoti is a great, funny and welcoming host. His dog Lassi and his cat Charlie are the most hilarious and sweetest animals I’ve met. They made me laugh big time, so lovely. The place has a great view, and is only a short walk from Ella center. If you look for somewhere peaceful where you only hear the songs from the birds rather than noise from the town, I highly recommend Home Hostel. Thjoti also offers exploring in the area. He took me and some others guests to two really nice waterfalls and we went to see a 2000 years old temple, great experiences. If you’re coming to Ella, there’s only one thing to do - book yourself a bed at Home Hostel. Warning: make sure you have some extra time available, you might end up staying longer than planned. If you’re looking for a place that feels less like a hostel and more like a peaceful little home in Ella, this is it. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed not only by the beautiful surroundings but also by the warmth of the owner. He is genuinely kind, attentive, and always ready to help with anything you might need, recommendations, organizing transport, or simply making sure you feel comfortable. You can feel that he truly cares about his guests. The mornings here are something special. You wake up to birds singing, soft mountain air, and the friendly faces of the hostel’s animals who greet you like old friends. There’s a calmness in this place that’s hard to describe, a quiet garden full of greenery, little sounds of nature, and a sense of peace that makes you slow down. Breakfast is absolutely delicious and prepared with care. Sitting outside in the garden, surrounded by flowers and tropical plants, it feels like the perfect way to start the day. Honestly, I could have stayed here for a month without any problem. It’s the kind of place where you don’t feel the need to rush around or constantly go sightseeing. The hostel itself has a charm that makes you want to stay, relax, read a book, listen to the birds, and simply enjoy being there. If you come to Ella and want somewhere peaceful, welcoming, and full of heart, this place is truly special. Highly recommended.

Stunning location. Chilled, friendly and relaxing social atmosphere. Comfortable and pet friendly. Great hospitality and very helpful information. Amazing breakfasts! We took a fabulous tour by our host, visiting Rawana Waterfall, lakes and cultural heritage sites. Within walking distance of the town, railway station, bars and restauants. Great walk to the Nine Arch Bridge

“Great location, but owner can be disrespectful!”

Very calm and chill area away from the chaos of the main town, but still easily accessible to Ella and multiple hiking trails. The hostel is very reasonably priced considering that breakfast is included and the rooms are all private.

Location is real nice and peaceful. Rooms are basic but decorated with love.

“I would live here”

The best hostel I’ve ever stayed at. It’s only a ten-minute walk from the Main Road, yet very peaceful, with great vibes and amazing views from the hostel. Chuti is incredibly helpful with anything you need and makes delicious breakfasts every morning, with great coffee. Everything is super clean and well organized, with hot water for showers and a wonderful night’s sleep thanks to the tranquility of the mountains. In the mornings, all kinds of animals come around: parrots, squirrels, many birds of different sizes and colors, even the neighbor’s chickens and goats. The Wi-Fi works really well, which is rare in many places in Sri Lanka. The hostel also has thoughtful little details you don’t usually see: clean towels to dry your hands, incense always burning, a small lock for your locker, and a mirror in the room. I came for three nights and ended up staying a week. If I didn’t have a flight tomorrow, I would definitely stay longer, mostly because of the hostel itself and Chuti. Thanks so much, Chuti!

A small paradise 10 min walking from Ella Main Street. Parrots, squirrels, a cat, a dog in the middle of the nature+ an amazing host and really cool travelers around. Simple and honest. Thanks a lot for these 6 days;)

I loved the location, being out of the main town and waking up in the jungle. It’s easy to walk or get a tuk tuk. The breakfast was delicious. The hotel manager was so attentive and helpful during our stay. He keeps the place very neat and tidy

Home Hostel Ella had such a great vibe – it really felt like a home away from home! The common couch area was perfect for meeting other travelers, having relaxed chats, and getting cozy at any time of day. It had that warm, welcoming feel, almost like something my mum would have set up – super homey and comforting. The breakfast was lovely, and the host was very laid-back and friendly, which made everything even better. The pets were super cute too – they added so much to the homely charm! On our first day, it was quite cold and rainy, so having a cozy spot to relax indoors was really nice.

What a stay I found a family atmosphere away from home. The owner is just beautiful, kind and honesty with a different approach to other places. Here you don't feel like a tourist you feel part of the place. Charlie the cat and lassie the dog make it feel even better. They are so loving. You just want to stay longer here.
