Very warm and friendly contact with the family. The cottage down in the garden has a large room and bathroom. Dinner is especially recommended: very generous, authentic, and reasonably priced! Even though I didn't use it, there are many offers for transport and excursions.

“The best homemade food”

Madu and her mother made my stay very warm and welcoming altough it rained a lot. I truly recommend the sri lankan breakfast and dinner . Bless hands of the lady chef , her cookings are great ! Out of the city center you can enjoy and fall alseep to the jungle sounds. The balcony is great to relax.

“Wonderfull view, wonderful hosts (but only 1 of the two accomondations is usable)”

Rooms: What a wonderful view. The first two nights I was in the Bungalow with „my own“ garden. I had super much space for myself, wonderful for relaxing and reading in the garden. The Bungalow has a super advanced water filter (no Britta :) which is very convenient. The second 2 nights I had to switch to the balcony room (middle level). Booking made a mistake. Not a problem, in theory. The view is even better. Having tea in the morning with that view was one of my highlights. But I have to comment on that room in the negative section. Location: It is very remote and you have to have healthy knees to walk down the track to Willow Cottage, when you don’t take a TukTuk. For me it was fine. It's 25m walking to Ella center. You can also just hail a bus passing by, and also take a bus from Ella there and just ask them to drop you off. (I didn’t research where the next bus stop is, but it worked fine for me). Paying for TukTuk all the time gets expensive in Ella. People in some of the reviews here complain about the road to Willow Cottage, but if you are healthy, you will be fine. It is absolutely worth the view.

“Lovely rustic cottage with mountain views”

Had a fantastic stay in the little cottage. A peaceful retreat from busy Ella town. The triple room is spacious with your own little garden and views of the surrounding countryside. It is a little way out from the busy town, we walked to town and also jumped on the local bus a few times. Walking in the opposite direction to the town are a few local eateries and a bakery. Fantastic service from Madu and his mother, great breakfasts with views of the monkeys and peacocks. Thank you Madu for getting us to the station for our morning train.

Beautiful location, simple but good British breakfast

Beautiful location but it is not easy to reach with car and if you arrive after dark. But the view when you wake up will compensate. Big and comfortable room, the host is helpful and solves every problem as quick as he can.

The hospitality and the friendliness of the hosts are phenomenal. The sights from the balconies and in the garden is so beautiful. The breakfast was extremely well, we could choose and they always surprised us with something extra. We are travelling as a family of 4, our boys stayed in the cottage and we stayed in the room with balcony overseeing the beautiful landscape. It was very relaxing and I can recommend, these people deserve a lot of guests! We walked up to the street (2 min) to get a Uber or a Tuktuk, as we needed two it sometimes took a few minutes.

“Home with a view”

Friendly family and good location with the nice view from the balcony. Managed to arrange rental scooter for us.

It's not far from Ella a cheap 5 to 10 minute tuk tuk ride and yet it feels totally removed from the hustle and bustle. At dawn you can hear peacocks and other birds. You cannot hear the main road. Occasionally you can hear Monks chanting in the temple above you. Rangelini the mum is adorable. She has some English. Madu is always at the end of the phone and can take you places. We also met his neice who was so cute and helped me learn to count to 10 in Sinhala. This is whay a homestay should be like.

Madu and his mother are some of the most hospitable people I’ve ever met. They picked me up from the station, cooked for me upon arriving late and it raining heavily, and so many other small things which just add to an amazing stay. The place is nice and clean, private, and equipped with a water filter which is a lovely touch! Outdoor area as well is nice. Laundry service. Great breakfast (western or Sri Lankan).

“Comfortable stay with great hospitality”

Outstanding service from mother and son. I arrived later than expected and was starving because I'd only had breakfast. It was 7pm and Rani kindly cooked dinner for me. I was so grateful 🙏. I booked the balcony room which had beautiful views of the mountains. Quiet and peaceful. I'd definitely recommend a stay at Ella Willow Cottage. Oh,Madhu kindly offered to drop me off at the train station after my stay.

You need to remember that is cheap family business. 10/10 when it comes to price

Madu and his mum are making this place perfect, it is simple accommodation in the tea plantation area, it has jungle feeling,, voices of the birds around... peacocks, chameleons..., breakfast great, Srí Lanka or English option, hosts very attentive to see what you like, Madu is very helpful with trips around informations, and also can arrange tuk tuk transfer, very quiet area, cca 25 mins by walk from Ella or 5 mins by tuk tuk, great view to the huge and beautiful budhistic temple on the hill nearby, do not look for European style hotel comfort, but this place is very authentic , Sri Lanka style, this is why it is unforgettable, after leaving this place, you feel like part of Madu familly, highly recommend, definitely will come back, when I go around again

Great stay just outside Ella with nice views of the surrounding hills. Very nice staff (mother and son) who run this place and they make a very tasty breakfast. I had both the Sri Lankan and western breakfast which where both great. Very good pricing as well. Defenitely recommend this place!

Perfect short stay in Ella! The room has everything you need, comfy bed, hot shower, clean room, water filter, tea, kettle, mosquito net and you get a delicious fresh breakfast! The hosts are super lovely and helpful. They went above and beyond during our stay You get a beautiful view each morning as well as only being 5 minute drive to the town where the shops and restaurants are Highly recommend - we would definitely come back here!
