One of the best hostels I stayed in. Amazing people working there, they helped me with everything I needed and made my whole stay in Ella feel amazing! The rooms were spacious, with own bathroom, lovely social area, delicious breakfast and great location!

Staff were really nice and offered good genuine advice for Ella and helped me do the Yala safari. They were always very polite and welcoming and kept the accommodation very clean.

The staff are truly amazing and very welcoming. The beds are comfortable, and the hostel offers many activities such as shared trips and group tours, which is great for meeting people and exploring together. The shared balcony is a wonderful place to spend time - perfect for meditation, reading a book, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. The breakfasts were decent. The location is very convenient: only about a 3-minute walk to the train station and also around 3 minutes from the city center. The rooms are clean.

The staff were so kind & helped us to organise taxis, laundry, day trips etc. The hostel is in a great location, right off the Main Street in Ella but still quiet at night. The beds were comfortable & the rooms had plenty of storage. We also did a sunrise hike through the hostel to Ella Rock & our guide who works at the hostel was amazing!

There are several activities available at the hostel, like cooking classes, dinners, also a shared Whatsapp group for the guests to plan things together. There's also a shared taxi service to the south that leaves at 9.30 am. Nice views from the terrace. The hostel is not in the main street but in a bit secluded area, so it's quiet too, still being very well located. There's a supermarket right across the street. It was a really good experience.

The hostel offers good value for the price. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were clean, and the female dorm felt tidy and well-maintained. Overall, the sleeping area was comfortable and suitable if you’re mainly looking for a place to rest.

Love the social ambience as well as its close proximity to the central area. The staff are super helpful and welcoming. Loved their breakfast, too

Stayed in the 6 bed dorm and it was great. Very spacious with large lockers. Beds were really comfortable. They even gave me a bottom bunk bed after I requested when booking. Great value for money. Highly recommend this hostel if staying in Ella.

The best thing about Downtown Hostel Ella is the amazing people who run it. They create a warm, welcoming atmosphere that truly makes you feel at home. The rooms are comfortable, the washrooms are clean, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. What really sets this hostel apart, though, is the crowd you meet there. It attracts some of the best fellow travelers you’ll come across in Sri Lanka, making the overall experience even more memorable.

I was only there for less than a night due to early start to go to Yala safari but these guys are outstanding! The safari they organised plus the transport to the south were unbelievable!
