“A fun no frills hippy vibe up in the mountains.”

First, it is nestled right in the mountains, in the center of San Jose. Next, there is a fun hippy vibe about the place that is consistent with the area. This means there is also a great community vibe within the common areas, with opportunities to meet people from far and wide. Staff are very friendly and can whip up great meals!

Mandala hostel is a very special place, especially if you are looking for a quite space and some privacy. It's organic and has a stunning view, as everywhere is San Jose del pacifico. I would definitely go back there.

Nice atmosphere

This bed was extremely uncomfortable, and that's speaking as someone who slept in a tent on a half inch camping pad for three months; the mattress was lumpy and you could feel the springs in the bed. The bed was also freezing even with two blankets, sweats, and two sweatshirts. I booked two nights and only ended up staying one. It was also quite expensive for the quality when you can get hostels in San Josef for 150 pesos a night if you look outside hostel world/booking.com

Stayed for one night in a double room with bathroom (shower and toilet) for 400 pesos. Just cold water, shower has no own sink. You will flood the bathroom while taking your cold shower. The sink is only held to the wall by the pipes. No towels, soap or paper. Mattress is pretty used. Door without a lock. Garbage and building materials on the terrace.
