The view out to the water

“Suite in quiet, comfortable and friendly motel overlooking the beach at the end of Long Bay.”

Our last night on the peninsula was spent in the imposing Seaside Motel in Duvauchelle overlooking the beach at the head of Duvauchelle Bay. Our balcony on the second floor faced south looking the length of the bay. A full moon rose above the surrounding hills later that evening and eventually bathed the entire bay in sharp bright light - an unreal image of shadows and light. The setting was spectacular in a country world famous for its natural beauty/scenery wherever you travel in the islands. We enjoyed our final evening meal of the holiday en famille in Akaroa and headed for Duvauchelle to check in – 8km/10-15 min run. The motel is to the left/bayside of the small township of Duvauchelle on the Christchurch side – just before the road climbs the steep incline from the bay. The motel comprises two large, separate, two-story buildings – the one with windows in the roof. The motel has a large road-side sign in case you missed things. Take the road entrance into the car park at the rear and there to one side, is the small glass-fronted office – the one with the friendly woman concierge that checked us in that evening. Our group comprised two families – with separate bookings – each of which were allocated a suite of rooms – two couples one of which had three little kids. The extent of the space available within the suite of rooms was a welcome surprise - large living/dining/kitchen composite room and an ensuite bedroom. The separate balcony stretched along the length of the external wall access from the living room. The suites were well-equipped sufficient facilities with which to cater food for preparation/services, bedding, toiletries. Our group were separated – one family on the ground floor and the other on the first floor. Sleep/night dominated with the family of five sharing the large bed, fold-out bed and/or camping down in whatever chair/corner was handy. Our suite was clean, comfortable and welcoming.

The property is situated with views over the water and the beautiful flowers were pretty. We appreciated a ground floor apartment with many facilities and private bathroom. Hosts were most helpful. Thank you
