“Cute hotel in lovely wine area, perfect for a quick stop off.”
We only stayed for one night, and only used it to sleep in, as we were out and about. However, the staff were very friendly on arrival, and the room was a lot bigger than expected, as there was three of us sharing. The hotel is in a quaint village, we visited the vineyard on top of the hill nearby, and had dinner in the village.

“Avoid this hotel”
Pros: Distance to Strasbourg and restaurant. Cons: Our stay at this hotel was one of the most disappointing and distressing experiences we’ve ever had. Despite booking a deluxe room for three people (including our 2-year-old toddler), we were given an apartment with tired furnishings and a dated kitchen. The stove knobs had no safety locks—an obvious hazard when travelling with young children—and, to make matters worse, the hotel staff had left a large plastic box filled with pots, pans, and cutlery directly on top of the stove. During our stay, our toddler accidentally turned a stove knob, causing part of the plastic box to melt. This triggered fumes and set off the alarm. While this was unsettling, the situation worsened due to the hotel’s behaviour. To be clear: the hotel's defense that they “cannot be held responsible for services provided to guests” does not absolve them of responsibility for this incident. Providing kitchen items is standard, but leaving them in a hazardous location, such as on top of the stove, instead of inside a drawer or cupboard where they belong, reflects poor judgment and negligence. This placement directly contributed to the incident, and the fault does not lie solely with the guest. The next day, the hotel moved us to a smaller room (designed for two people, though we had booked for three) to “inspect the apartment” for damage. However, no findings were shared but on the day of checkout, they suddenly demanded €1,000 in damages. When we explained that our Dutch liability insurance would handle the claim directly with them, the staff became openly hostile. We were dismissed when trying to explain our position. Their receptionist, who had been polite up to that point, began threatening to call the police. Despite our willingness to pay for any damages after a proper assessment, we were coerced into paying €750 and providing credit card details under duress.

“A lovely, quiet and interesting stay in a comfortable hotel in a pretty town.”
Durbach is a very pretty town surrounded by hills covered with vineyards and woodland. The hotel is very attractive, easy to find and has plenty of parking spaces. The breakfast was very good. Durbach produces a lot of wine, mostly riesling, and the hotel is conveniently close to the vinery.

“Exceeded our expectations in a beautiful village”
We liked everything! The hotel is located in the heart of the Baden wine trail area, a beautiful village with a small shop, restaurants and an award winning cafe. We had one of the studios, which was spacious with a super comfy bed. This had a balcony with views of the surrounding vineyards and over looking the village swimming pool, which we could use for free. The pool is immaculate with plenty of shade, grassed areas amongst colourful planting. We were never disturbed by noise, even when it was busy- just the delightful sound of children playing until it closed at 8 pm. We had the option of taking breakfast in the hotel, which was a wonderful buffet of options and beautiful fresh eggs and coffee. The local shop sells everything needed for breakfast, lunches and meals which we could have prepared in the kitchen area, but we ate several nights in the restaurant and the food was excellent. Lots of locally sourced produce and enticing local wines. Lots of traditional options to try, but for those who prefer lighter meals, the fish and pasta were excellent. ( Meals did not need to be ‘heavy’ ) The staff were efficient- our German is not great, but they helped us with the menu and we had several delightful conversations with some of the young staff. A real bonus was the free travel card which we were given when we checked in. This gave us free entrance to the pool, which we used on a daily basis as it was very hot whilst we were there. It also gave us free travel on all local trains and buses in the Black Forest. Brilliant! We hardly used our hire car, had several fun days out, hopping on the bus just along from the hotel to the nearest station. All of this was so efficient. The only trains this didn’t apply to were the ICE high speed trains, but we would highly recommend taking this option and leaving the car behind. We would have been happy to pay to go on the fast trains to. visit areas further afield like Lake Constance or Basel had we been staying longer.
