Overview

Formerly a traditional farm, some of the cottages on Vestre Sorken Feriegård have been welcoming guests for as long as 250 years. Listed as a cultural site, the farm is located in Engerdal on the shores of Lake Femunden. The farm cottages on Vestre Sorken Feriegård are timber-built and have rustic interiors. Some have a fireplace, while all accommodation shares bathroom facilities and all come with a sitting area and a radio. Lake Femunden is the second largest lake in Norway, and guests can rent boats from the property for fishing or exploring the lake. Hiking and cycling are also popular in the area, while the Swedish skiing area of Idre Fjäll is only an hour’s drive away. There is a small farm museum on-site open in the summer, and the Femundsmarka National Park is only 30 km away. Both Trondheim and Oslo are within 4 hours’ drive of the property.

Living in history and in total peace

This is an amazing and unusual place to stay. The various historic buildings give you a sense of visiting a museum, and the very friendly and informative welcome you get from the owner, gets you in a good mood. The peace and quiet of the surrounding area and the lake is really unusual, and all you can hear is the water and the birds. And, catching a glimpse of the resident reindeer when you come back only adds to the magic.

Amazing place with lots of history and close to nature, still having all the basic amenities.

Everything. This is on the top of the list of places I need to come back to. The surroundings and the tranquility are bliss for all senses. The small cabin has all the basics. The beds were very comfy - haven’t slept so well for a long time. Having to walk a couple of steps outside to get to the bathroom and to get water added to the nostalgia - this was what cabins were like in my childhood. However, here you get a modern toilet and a shower in a nice warm bathroom. We did not have that luxury. The small museum was very interesting. The host was nice and inviting and he has a lot of knowledge of the past and present in the area. There are possibilities of renting kayaks- and canoes not far from the property. Unfortunately we only stayed for one night this time. But we most certainly will be back to explore the lake and the surroundings.

Rustic and friendly accommodation in beautiful milieu

We needed a place to stay overnight on our trip from Stockholm to Ålesund. Luckily we found this accommodation. The place is very authentic and we could sense real "norwegian" vibe there. People were working on the fields nearby, there were reindeers walking around and our room situated in an old farm building. It was very exotic indeed. Our host was very friendly and he told us about some of the old objects there. Our room was very spacious and beautiful.

Met all the expectations.

Comfortable beds. Friendly host. Cheap. The houses are old, so we didn't expect luxury, but we didn't miss anything. There was even games to play.

Authentic historical and peaceful environment, no hustle and bustle. The owner is very hospitable and caring. The place is nice on the shore of the lake and there are various nice places for relaxation and walks around. Although the hita has no toilet and shower, this is not a problem as there are common areas a few steps away which are perfectly clean. Deer can often be seen.

Nice old house

Very nice place. We stayed in a 300 years old building, so it was not very modern, but still comfortable with all we needed. Kitchen is adequate for simple hot and cold meals. Host was friendly. Very nice touch to keep cars away from the old buildings.

Beautiful lake and people

The lake view and historic farm buildings were peaceful. We even had an opportunity to eat some lake white fish and video a herd of reindeer.

Excellent value for money, an intriguing setting with fantastic forest (and reindeer!) outside. We ended up staying in one half of the old farmhouse which features, among other things, running water! We'd definitely stay again if driving to Trondheim as the farm is very close to exactly half way.

Great stay at a special place

We had a great stay at Vestre Sorken Feriegard. It is a special place. All the buildings are old but fully renovated and functional. Everything is spotless clean. You can enjoy the nature: lake with little beach, wild animals... The host was very kind and showed us several old houses converted in museum. It´s probably the best ethnographic museum we have ever visited! We will be happy to stay again.

A completely unique accommodation

Very interesting old buildings, authentic furnishings, peaceful surroundings. A lake is nearby, it is possible to go swimming. We also liked the forest trails where, if you are lucky, you can meet a reindeer. Very pleasant host who told a lot about the history of the place.

Excellent option in winter as well, really beautiful

This is an excellent option in winter to enjoy cross country skiing or snowshoeing anywhere in the truly beautiful surroundings. Skis and boots can be rented across the border in Sweden in Grövelsjön, but Stefan (the host) might find an alternative option in Norway for you if given notice. Stefan is very friendly and helpful. The traditional wooden hut in his 'museum' farm that we stayed in was formerly a store room. The inside is nicely renovated and there is a window. The hut was very clean, comfortable and warm. It sleeps up to 4 guests and was ideal for the two of us. There is a gas heater and an electrical heater as a backup. The small kitchenette is adequate to prepare meals. The washrooms are in a neighboring building just 10 m away, they are very well heated and feature great hot showers.
