One of the best places we've ever stayed in!! Beautiful location in the hills of apokoronas with plenty of lovely drives and villages nearby. Beautiful house and having the pool was an absolute dream (we felt really lucky to have it to ourselves for the whole time). We didn't get to meet Nektaria in person but she was very helpful and friendly via whatsapp. Would love to stay again!!

A perfect spot for a holiday. The villa is peaceful and charming, with a fairly large pool shared by just a few houses. Our daughter was thrilled to have her own “princess chamber,” as she called her bedroom. It is really a chamber, not just a room - check it out on photos. Located in the picturesque village of Douliana, it's surrounded by beauty and has a wonderful tavern nearby, with several others just a short walk away. But what truly makes this place special is the host, Nektaria — a genuinely lovely and welcoming person who goes out of her way to make you feel at home. When we return to Crete, we’ll definitely be coming back here.

We have stayed at Douliana many times but this was the best visit yet. We arrived late at night and the host, Nektaria was very concerned that we would settle in comfortably. She turned up to make sure that we were familiar with everything. She had already sent us WhatsApp messages to make sure that we found the villa. On top of that she left us a wonderful meal in the oven so that we could eat when we arrived. This was completely unexpected way beyond what I could expect from any host. I also hate to be hungry so it was very welcome after a long day travelling. The house was spotlessly clean and well tended. It had all the facilities you could want for a stay and was very comfortable. The villa is close to the Taverna so evening meals were never a difficulty. If you're self catering, the villa is well set up. Douliana is close enough to Vamos and Gavilochori to take advantage of the very fine tavernas and cafes there, either by car or on foot. The little pool was spotlessly clean and very pleasant in the Autumn sunshine. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this villa. It was made exceptional by the care Nektaria took to ensure our comfort. Thanks again for making our trip so memorable and enjoyable.

We were a family of four with two girls, a teenager and an 8 year old. The house was pretty spacious with everything necessary to meet the requirements of all types of families. There is plenty of room outside the property as well to do activities and the location itself is ideal to nice walks around and with Restaurants and Cafe in walking distance. The pool was a definite plus and we had a whale of time there. We love serene locations and this property was best placed in Douliana in that respect, excellent views. The house had a great furnishing, very comfortable and an excellent kitchen with all that you need for any type of cooking. Host, Nektaria was very accommodative, kind and generous, always available at the other end of the phone for any needs and recommendations. We arrived mid day on a hot day and Nektaria received us with freshly made lunch and sweets, cool water stocked in the fridge and the local flavor, 'Raki' ready to serve. She is very thoughtful of the needs of her guests and ensures she does her best.

Beautiful accommodation, plenty of space, even for several families, great cosy furnishings, a private outdoor pool in a beautiful garden. Everything is handed over in a clean condition and warm preparation and welcome by the very friendly owner Nektaria with fresh pastries and a welcome drink. The villa is located in a small idyllic village with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. There are several tavernas that invite you to go out in the evening. The sea is easily accessible by car. We enjoyed our time very much and would like to thank Nektaria for the wonderful time we had in this marvellous villa.

“Relaxing stay in a beautiful setting, with everything a short drive away”

We rented 2 houses around the pool, for a family of 9. Lots of space, really nice houses, garden and pool, in a calm area a short drive away from the beach and commerce. The host gave us a very warm welcome and many tips about the area, and checked everything was ok throughout our stay. Any issue or question was solved promptly, which was greatly appreciated. Even the recommendation of restaurants on the other side of Chania were a success! The houses were clean and well equipped, and we could cook for all, wash clothes, sleep well with the air conditioning. The kids loved the pool, the adults enjoyed it too. To get there and explore around, you will likely need a car. We could park inside the property on dedicated parking spots, which was very good, despite a couple of narrow alleys in Douliana, but never a problem. The village is beautiful and calm, with great views of the mountains, cats and flowers. A couple of nice tavernas are at walking distance. The best local mini-markets and bakery we used are in Vamos, about 3km away. For a better selection of market, butcher and baker, go to Kalyves, 6km away. I highly recommend the retreat homes Apokoronas for a calm stay in the mountain area, very relaxing, lovely place.

The retreat, the village and especially the host and her family are fabulous. Nektaria is very kind and gave us many advises for places to visit on the island. Our boys (and we) loved to swim in the pool. Next to the retreat is a lovely taverna with delicious food and friendly staff. The village Douliana is a romantic, quiet place. The villa was tucked away in such a beautiful wee area, almost like something out of a movie! There was so much space in the villa, with everything you need. We were a family of 5 , kids aged 19, 16 and 12 and own space was important to them as well as big enough space to be together - so it was perfect!

Beautiful villa, we really enjoyed our stay. Lovely pool and outdoor spaces. Douliana is gorgeous, two good tavernas in walking distance. Nektaria was very kind, someone in our family is severely autistic and she was understanding and welcoming towards him.

“Fantastic villa with a fantastic host”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely villa with private pool. Nektaria is a great host and was always on hand with excellent advice as well as providing us with delicious local specialties including homemade ones which we really appreciated. The villa itself had everything we needed and the pool was a very good size set in a lovely garden with plenty of cozy outdoor furniture. The villa is situated in the heart of the village which has a couple of nice tavernas and a cafe all with friendly owners and great Cretan food. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and we hope to be back soon. Thank you Nektaria and family for everything.

The villa Syblia was very spacious, well equipped, comfortable with lovely private pool and outdoor pizza oven and BBQ pit. The village is quiet and friendly and has lovely walks from the villa. Beaches were a short drive away and the location is good (with a car) to lots of attractions/places to visit.The host, Nektaria, cooked fresh local home cooking for our arrival which was lovely and was very helpful and welcoming throughout our stay. Would definately recommend staying here.

We had a fabulous holiday here in Douliana, a lovely village, with some nice restaurants & a friendly atmosphere. Our host Nektaria couldn't have been nicer, she was so helpful & generous. She was also very responsive both before & during our holiday. We would highly recommend a stay here, the pool was lovely, the house was clean & it was really nice touch to have a welcome package of food/drink & even some freshly baked Cretan delicacies!! Lake Kournas is nearby & well worth a visit, hire a pedalo to see the turtles on the other side!

We stayed in the larger villa with a private pool. It is a lovely property. The owners Nektaria, Christos and family live around 30 minutes away and they could not have been more generous. In addition to helping with the villa, they also dealt with our car hire company for us when we had a flat tyre and suggested places to visit. Douliana is peaceful and comprises several villas, an excellent traditional taverna, cafes and a small shop. Beaches, supermarkets and sites of interest are within easy driving distance.

Excellent holiday home in a beautiful village in the mountains, not far from Chania. The house has everything you need for a relaxed holiday: well equipped kitchen, spacious living room, fast internet and a swimming pool. But the best part of it are the hosts, especially Nektarina. They take care of you as if you were a personal friend, looking after your comfort and giving a lot of advice about restaurants and sights. The village itself has some good restaurants and there are more in the neighborhood or in Chania. Highly recommended.
