Firstly, the staff. From there everything flowed seamlessly according to our wishes. Facilities are fist class and comfortable.

Staff were fantastic, so helpful and attentive without being overbearing. The food was delicious, we stayed for three nights had Sri Lankan food every time so could have done with a few more options. Pool was brilliant in the heat and we had it to ourselves as no one else was around! Gardens were beautifully maintained. Outdoor bathroom was a fun novelty

We loved this small hotel - six bungalows at present round a lovely pool. The location was perfect for visiting Sigiriya and the Cave Temples. The food was very good and the staff really excellent. Very helpful about arranging drivers for outings and to our next hotel three hours away. In fact we had the same driver, Buddhi, who was really nice and very informative. We met the owner of the hotel and enjoyed hearing about how it had come to be built and plans for the future. Last but not least it was very good value for money!

“Wonderful calm oasis”

Kandalama Lodge is an exceptional hotel. Just 5 lodges set in a peaceful garden surrounding a lovely swimming pool. We had originally booked for 3 days but gladly extended our stay to 5. The lodges are charming, the bed very comfortable, everything was exceptionally clean, the air conditioning is efficient and the shower always had hot water (not the norm in some of the other hotels we stayed). Each lodge has a verandah and so even if it rains you can still sit outside and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. One larger lodge has its own private garden and swimming pool - fabulous. There is an attention to quality and detail throughout this property both in it's design and upkeep and in the service it offers. The hotel's openair restaurant and kitchen is not to be missed. This was the tastiest food we ate during our holiday in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan curry and the barrimundi were our favourites. We normally like to go out and try different places to eat but the food was so good here that we ate in most nights. A special mention has to go to all the staff who were helpful and professional. Nothing was too much trouble. I was ill whilst there and the staff found me the appropriate specialists, arranged hospital visits, blood tests etc. Particular thanks to Amila who escorted me through their medical system, so very kind of him. The lodge is outside of Dambulla and so you do need a tuktuk to get there or to other places of interest. The hotel has its own tuktuk service , so this is no problem. And we definitely preferred this peaceful location. The hotel can arrange arrange and provide tours. We had a lovely day tour in and around Sigiriya with Amila. And they provided transport to other activities we had arranged. It was perfect to be able to split the day between busy sight seeing, and the tranquility of the pool and beautiful garden. I'd be very happy to return here.

The staff welcomed us with a cold flannel and a fresh drink before showing us to our beautiful room . We had chosen a room with private pool which was very special . Although as it’s such a small hotel with the pool at the centre not having a private pool would definitely not be an issue . The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful !!

This is a small boutique hotel near Kandalam Lake, ideal place to explore Dambulla Cave Temple, Sigiriya and Safari/Nature reserves. We had a spacious immaculate room and a unique outside bathroom area, where you could shower listening to the birds. Open kitchen where you can watch the chefs prepare your breakfast and dinner. Presentation is clearly important factor, and enjoyed the well prepared dishes on offer.

It’s quite simple but very comfortable, really good food (approx. 12-16USD for a main so a little more expensive than local restaurants) and very switched on and friendly staff. A/C, safe box, teabags/kettle/mugs in the room. Nice swimming pool area which was always kept clean despite the weather’s best efforts! Outdoor bathroom was a really fun touch, though be aware that invites wildlife - first morning I was brushing my teeth when a baby monkey popped its head over the roof!
