Incredibly peaceful location. Comfortable room and huge bed. Stunning views of the river. Sauna was nice. We also had dinner there one evening and the food was amazing!!! Great place to relax.

“Perfect base of operations to explore the Sacred Valley by car”

Clau and Rudi are amazing hosts and they made us feel welcome. By the end of the stay we felt like we're visiting friends rather than staying in a hotel. Every morning we had a lovely Peruvian breakfast with freshest ingredients—a luxury we don't have in the UK where everything comes chilled from a supermarket from a farm hundreds of miles away, or even another country—and every evening they made us delicious dinner (need to order this in advance). The vibe was very peaceful and we had animals come to visit us. We made friends with Tupac, the llama, and Max the dog. There was a cat and a rooster too but they weren't as friendly and minded their own business. The hotel is situated in the heart of the Sacred Valley (about 1.5hr drive from Cusco) and makes for a perfect base to explore this beautiful part of the world. The Maras salt mines are only a short walk (1.5hr depending on pace and fitness), Ollantaytambo is a short drive away (30min), and Urubamba is nearby too (20 min drive or 1.5hr walk). One thing to note is that the nearest shop is quite far away so make sure you do your shopping in advance. Finally, Rudi is a guide and can provide a wealth of local information about what to do and what to see, as well as various tours starting from the hotel. We highly recommend the ATV tour because that was one of the highlights of our stay at the lodge.

The place is stunningly beautiful, right on the banks of the Urubamba River. It’s very peaceful and quiet, with a charming, beautifully designed room overlooking the river. Very comfor table bed. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive. The owners also helped us with everything we needed, including arranging an ATV tour in the Sacred Valley and a taxi to the zipline. We truly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this place.

What an absolute gem of a retreat! This place is the perfect escape from the buzz of the main tourist spots — peaceful, restorative, and surrounded by natural beauty. Claudia and Rudi are beyond welcoming; they truly care about their guests and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. They’re full of great tips and local insights about walks, getting around, and discovering the best of the Sacred Valley. I arrived feeling under the weather and honestly couldn’t have picked a better place to rest and recover. The bed was unbelievably comfortable, and my room — with an entire wall of windows letting in soft, natural light — felt so healing and serene. Urubamba is just 10 minutes away by colectivo or tuk-tuk, and getting around the valley with the colectivos is super easy and efficient. There’s a reason this place has such a high rating — it truly deserves every bit of it. I can’t recommend it highly enough for anyone looking for warmth, comfort, and genuine hospitality in a stunning setting.

“Beautiful setting, peaceful and very comfortable”

This is a simply beautiful spot - the garden, river views, the mountains. I found it extremley tranquil and it was my favourite place to stay in Peru. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. The room was spacious, had a really comfy bed, and a lovely view. I chose optional extra to use the sauna and it has a stunning river view. I would come again!

“Lovely location”

The owners of the Spirit of the river lodge were absolutely lovely! We had a great time and a fantastic massage (great value!). The location is really wonderful for some quiet relaxing time. Sitting on the bench by the river is a mesmerizing experience. The breakfast was delicious with fresh juice and fresh fruit. Additionally, they allowed us to store our luggage there for a few hours after checking out.

“An oasis in the middle of the desert”

This hotel is a real hidden gem. The access is a bit tricky through country roads, but once you arrive and the gates open, it truly feels like paradise. The rooms are spacious and the service is excellent. On top of that, the hotel is located right next to sacred valley river where you can chill. And if you love animals, you’ll be delighted !! There are dogs, cat, rabbit, chickens, guinea pigs, and even a Lama !

- the hosts were very warm - in nature, we could hear the sound of the river - home made dinner - was exactly what we needed after having been travelling for a while - close to the town - there is a lama that likes to cuddle (and dogs too) - bedroom is really comfortable and decorated with taste - good breakfast

“A riverside paradise”

The property was absolutely beautiful, the rooms were so comfortable and the views spectacular. Claudia was the most wonderful and kind host, with the best recommendations and delicious food. Their llama Tupac and dog Max were amazing, and we loved every moment we spent there. We will definitely come back, and are so grateful for their hospitality.

“Magnificent Stay by the River”

It’s hard to choose what I loved most about Spirit of the River Lodge, everything was truly wonderful. The location is magical and peaceful, with the sound of the river always in the background and barely any traffic passing by. We stayed twice, in two different rooms, and both were beautifully designed, cozy, and offered gorgeous views of the river. You can really feel how thoughtfully everything was created to respect and highlight the natural surroundings. The lodge has a sauna overlooking the river, direct access to the water, and a small yoga shala where I enjoyed my morning practice and reading. Claudia and Rudi were incredibly welcoming and hospitable. They made us feel like family. We had dinner one night and breakfast each morning, and even as vegans, we felt so well cared for. The food was amazing. They also have lovely animals, a llama named Tupac and two sweet dogs, Max and Juanita, who added so much joy to our stay. The area is relaxing but also well located, with easy access to nearby towns and cities. We came back twice because we truly fell in love with the place. I can’t recommend it enough!
