“Great stay and Tony takes excellent care of his guests!”

The location was good. Tony was able to give us great information on Cuenca and was very helpful when we needed a doctor. He was always friendly and if not around would answer any questions on WhatsApp promptly. The rooftop terrace is a great addition and had a good view.

“Very personable hostel where you feel straight at home in the heart of Cuenca”

A fantastic hostel in walking distance to both the historic centre of town but also to the bus terminal, which makes it great to explore the city and beyond. The rooftop terrace is really nice to spend some time on in the evening and the beds are very comfy. The stand-out of the hostel are all the personal touches by the owner who goes above and beyond to ensure you have a nice stay. I think everyone got a personalised induction to Cuenca, complete with a map for their phone with all the highlights. He was also incredibly helpful in planning trips outside of town and what I need to call out is that I had forgotten something in the hostel, which he then ensured would reach me while I had travelled on to Peru by bringing it to the bus station and organising it would be taken on the bus - that was incredibly lovely, nothing I would ever expect and so much appreciated. So thanks for a fantastic stay!

“Very nice hostel with a great owner”

Great hostel with a very nice rooftop and an owner who is very welcoming and goes out of his way for the guests. Not only will he help you with your plans in Cuenca, also for the rest of Ecuador or surrounding countries. Besides that, he really connects travellers, by welcoming them and introducing them to each other. Something I have not often seen before.

I found Tony to be so helpful with tips for the city and making tea when you arrive to make you feel settled, the hostel has a lovely feel and the rooftop is a really nice place to hang out and chill. I wish I'd booked here earlier and stayed longer

“A wonderful weekend in Cuenca”

Tony is the quintessential host! He allowed us to check in early, sat us down to show us a map of Cuenca and made excellent suggestions for what to see and do. He offers to help line up taxis, tours, whatever you need. He really made it an experience and not just a place to crash. El Cafecito has the basics for a no-frills stay in a charming, tidy 3 story building. The roof terrace is a wonderful place to spend time between outings.

The location is beautiful and easy walking distance to most major attractions in Cuenca. The roof terrace has amazing views over Cuenca. The room was spacious with a private bathroom. Powerful shower with hot water. Tony is a great host who is happy to share his expertise of the surrounding area and encourages you to get out and enjoy all that Cuenca has to offer. It can get cold in the rooms at night but blankets are provided.

“A hostel in a great location with an amazing welcoming owner.”

I booked a bed in the 6-person dorm. The room has enough space, the beds are comfy (maybe I would only suggest a slightly bigger pillow) and it is very clean. On the rooftop there is a kitchen and a bar and enough room to chill. The owner Tony is very hospitable. When you arrive he will give you an explanation of the city and all the activities you can do in and outside the city. He will point all the places on Maps.me, so you know where they are. He also helps you with arranging activities if you need some help or suggestions. For me he helped greatly with my trip to Cajas National Parks. Tony is also a person that brings people together and he made my stay feel like a home away from home. I would highly recommend a stay at El Cafecito.
