“Great place to stay in central Colombo!”

Brilliant location in Colombo, we stayed for 2 nights. As overnight guests, we could use the elegant members lounge and that was a lovely space for friends and family to drop-in on us for meals or just drinks or for us to relax at the end of a busy day. Plus the snack bar on the ground floor and outdoor courtyard, was handy on arrival. Staying there, offers a unique insight into Burgher history as the club was set up in 1908. The rooms have only recently been added, so are very fresh and modern, with a fridge, kettle and air-con etc. It is set back off a busy road but has a good space for vehicles to pull up on arrival. Walking distance to a lot of shops (Cargills opposite) cafes, ATMS and sea or super easy by tuk tuk. Plus the early check-in time from 11.00am was much appreciated. We would definitely recommend to all our friends and family.

There was a good choice of breakfast and dinner. Throughout the day the cafe was open for snacks, hot and cold drinks. The staff were helpful and friendly.

A charming and comfortable room which allowed us access to the absolutely amazing private members restaurant and bar, which was our favourite place to sit and relax with a drink in Colombo!

This property affectionatelly known as the "DBU" by its' longest standing fans is part of the history of the island and thus part of the fabric of the culture. I am pleased to see it getting the TLC it deserves, long may it last. The property enjoys the benefit of a fantastic renovation and substantial extension of an historic building. Many original features have been preserved and these combined elegantly with modern facilties. As a guest your are given access to the private members (colonial bar & dining) areas providing you adhere to the club rules and evening dress code, all perfectly understandable. The club facilities are excellent, as are the staff. The rooms are modern and elegant. They are equipped with everything one needs for a very comfortable stay. Great a/c and a ceiling fan too. Downstairs dining & VOC cafe are open to the general public & guests, bar & dining upstairs open to members & guests. All of the food and drink is very reasonably priced and good quality. The DBU is in a great location; cafes, restaurants, laundry services, supermarkets are all within a few minutes walking distance, central Colombo a short tuk tuk or cab ride away. A nice little touch was that an international power adapter was provided in the room. All of the staff; housekeeping, cafe, bar, restaurant and reception were friendly, attentive and helpful. In house dining is available in the cafe & restaurant, the food is excellent.
