The customer service, Reception staff were remarkably great, and so as the dinner and breakfast buffet staff. it was only a 1 night stay but very memorable.

“Terrific ryokan experience for a reasonable cost”
Great location. Private outdoor onsen available to book at an additional cost. Great buffet breakfast and dinner included. 90 minute all you can drink package available with dinner for an additional 2500 yen.

Everything! The onsen is amazing, the buffet the best in Japan and the rooms amazing. Love that we never see any other western tourists staying here.

“Fabulous stay”
This was our favourite stay while in Japan. It was great to be amongst locals (we saw only one other tourist) enjoying themselves on a family holiday break. Yukatas on, and they stayed on for the whole time including breakfast and dinner. Many grandmas soaking the outdoor hot baths looking at the stream. There was a few private tubs for those with tattoos or shy for around 30k yen. Buffet was extensive and delighted the locals as they giggled as they selected their favourites. There was even a children’s buffet set on low tables - very family friendly. Most used the shuttle bus to arrive here, from the station. It’s an hour from Matsumoto, or 20 mins from Chino. The place promises to be spectacular in the snow.

“A true local gem”
Tateshina is off the beaten track, but offers a true local experience where you can enjoy a wonderful onsen, a relaxing evening on your tatami mat and genuine Japanese cuisine. Dinner in yakuta is special. I had a luggage handle malfunction and the front desk was very obliging to assist with a screw driver. Thank goodness for Google Translate! Futons on tatami mats were very comfy and we all slept soundly.

“Great place to stay , just be away of the Annex building (4th floor)”
The place was great with the food and staff , and has a lot of a history to it (it's over 100 years old, and has been renovated/refurnished several times with new wings added) The highlight has to be the outdoor baths. It overlooks a soothing stream and has great views in any season :)

“The Quality is not worth the price .”
Cleanest, non smoking room but full of smell cigarettes in the room, Bath tub cleanest and in the toilet . Found small hair on bed .
