A great place, provides everything travellers need on the way over the border with Laos. Very organised and helpful, the owner is great and can arrange the boat ticket for Laos, transport across the border. He's a character too. The room was small but fun, all wood panelling and we had a balcony which we really enjoyed. Location brilliant, you can walk along the river bank, into the main street for the market and fabulous restaurant few doors away. We stayed 2 nights to get a taste of Chiang Khong, really glad we did.

Lovely clean old style teak guesthouse. Very friendly staff. Good location walking distance from massage and restaurant. Drove us to border for small amount.

“One night in Chiang Khong”

Most people ce to Chiang Khong for one night to cross into Laos the following morning. Baanfai is a perfect, reasonably price option to spend a night or even more in. It is built in the traditional style and is absolutely lovely with a nice balcony to sit out on. We had a twin room with ensuite bathroom. It's basic but has everything you need. Its on the main road so close to restaurants, the brilliant Big C supermarket and the riverside walk. The best thing about it is the owner, who is a big boss in the area. He has everything organised with a taxi that takes you to the border crossing in the morning included. He can also arrange boat trips downriver for a good price if you haven't already booked one. He is a partner of Mekong River Cruise which we had already pre-booked. In the morning, he checked everything was in order for us. We would highly recommend Baanfai for your stay in Chiang Khong. Restaurants close by 8/8.30 so go early.

Well priced for a couple of nights stay. Great location for town centre and the fabulous river pathways for pedestrians and cyclists. Attractive building. Nearby restaurants and supermarket and town centre. Probably too small for longer stays as it’s very compact. There is a lot of light shining through the curtain overnight which together with a noisy water pump which was constantly cutting in and out takes away a couple of points for us . Balancing value with comfort is tricky sometimes.

I really liked the location and got good value for 7 nights. I was drawn to use black & white photos in this area beautiful, I'll delvelop them when return from my trip. Met my nice people and restaurants and bars, I don't drink but found 0.0 beer. Walking around was so peaceful and great views with relaxed people.

Loved this place - wish I stayed longer. On the night market street so plenty of food and drink options around. Close to the river with awesome walks along the banks. Room was awesome.

Affordable, comfortable, private accommodation

We used this as our stop before slow boat to Laos, the hotel owner was very helpful with making sure we got our transfer and sorted our visas and papers out. Nice family.
