“The Beauty of Historic Charm”

Staying at the Carmichael Boutique Hotel was an absolute delight from start to finish. This beautifully restored 1896 home perfectly blends historic charm with modern comfort, creating a boutique experience that feels both elegant and welcoming. The hotel is tastefully decorated throughout, with thoughtful attention to detail that makes every corner feel special. I loved the wooden floors and stained-glass entrance way. My room was well-appointed, featuring a wonderfully comfortable bed, a modern and spacious bathroom, and a peaceful atmosphere perfect for relaxing after a busy day. The entire property is exceptionally clean. Breakfast quickly became a highlight of each day. Served in the lovely conservatory, with a view of the immaculate garden, it featured outstanding croissants imported from France and baked fresh daily. The rest of the breakfast offering was equally enjoyable. What truly sets this hotel apart, however, are the wonderful hosts, Yves and Valerie. Their warmth, attentiveness, and genuine care made an already excellent stay even more memorable and special. They go out of their way to ensure guests feel at home and have everything they need. Location-wise, the hotel is perfectly positioned close to the University of Cape Town (UCT), making it an ideal base if you’re visiting the university or exploring the surrounding suburbs.

The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, while still maintaining a high level of professionalism — it struck a perfect balance between feeling at home and being well taken care of. This is a gorgeous old house with an abundance of beautiful, character-filled details. The location was excellent, very close to the airport with easy access to major roads, yet surprisingly quiet and peaceful. The garden is beautiful, with birds regularly visiting, which made it especially relaxing. Everything was spotlessly clean, the breakfast was absolutely delicious, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. We will definitely be back.

A wonderful boutique hotel with the charm of past years, yet impeccably maintained. The hosts were exceptionally warm and helpful, kindly assisting us with planning our days and making restaurant reservations. There is a small pool and a beautiful garden that invite you to relax. The breakfast was outstanding. We felt very welcome & safe.

Beautiful and well-maintained property with even more charming staff. Our room was exclusive and larger than expected, with two units and a beautiful “glass” bathroom, making us feel like we were in Victorian times. The breakfast was delicious. And the sun and flowers everywhere—just beautiful. The area seemed safe, but we used the driving service offered by the property, which was a great experience in itself, and didn't do much walking. We also used the pool to cool off, and our little one loved it. Yves and Valèrie are great, charming, and warm hosts who made us feel like we were coming home every day and also helped us when we had health issues. Thank you for everything !

Beautiful old but well-maintained house converted into a boutique hotel. Tastefully decorated with comfortable rooms and lovely breakfast room. Great breakfast menu. Small and personable; our hosts Yves and Valerie made us feel right at home and met all our needs. Set in a quiet and safe neighbourhood just below university campus, it was a short drive to the city, airport, V&A Waterfront and Kirstenbosch botanical gardens; we found it very convenient.

I can't recommend this hotel highly enough, with its large, comfortable, elegantly decorated rooms in the midst of a lovely garden, a perfect haven in the midst of Cape Town. Breakfast is superb, the staff is very friendly and conscientious, and Yves and Valerie are always ready to help with advice or arranging something. My only worry before arriving was that it seemed a bit far from the town center, but it is a short (and inexpensive) uber ride to most anywhere in town, and the cars arrive within a couple of minutes. All in all a truly lovely place to stay.
