“Cute basement flat with lovely courtyard”

The street-level building above the apartment is not too impressive but the stairwell takes you down into a delightful courtyard, with lovely flowers and plenty of shade from the hot sun. There is a small table and chairs you can take outside to enjoy the area, which you may need to do as there is no wifi at the property and phone reception can be weak indoors. There's also a rack for drying clothes, towels etc and a washing machine inside. The flat is a bit dark but it is a lovely old-fashioned holiday apartment with lounge/kitchen/dining area in one room, a bathroom and a spacious bedroom with big wardrobe. I was a bit wary of the two single beds in there but the one I used was surprisingly comfortable. There is an internal door so you can cut off the noise of the fridge-freezer humming if it stops you sleeping. The kitchen was well equipped with cutlery, dishes, cups, pots, pans etc but no kettle - just a small coffee pot. Francesca left me a welcome present of a big bottle of water and sweet bread for breakfast, which was appreciated. The apartment is close to the port and town beaches so it was a good base to explore Cala Gonone and the surrounding areas - it's well worth doing a mini cruise or hiring a zodiac boat so you can access the best beaches, which are otherwise hard to get to.
