“Paradise with amazing owners. Loved it!”

The property is tucked behind a wall and gates and although it is a step (literally) across from the beach it was completely secure. The garden is substantial with several villas and small lodges but it hides them well and you feel like you are in your own little paradise… people come to Costa Rica to see the wildlife and pay a lot of money to enter the national parks, pay for guides etc… don’t bother, just stay here! I can’t put into words how nice the owners are. We’d just arrived and were treated to a tour of the garden and beach across the road (two steps away) to see not one, not two but three sloths, monkeys, birds, iguanas and a whole host of other creatures. This place is a rare treat and the owners are fantastic. We loved it!!

“Stunning setting filled with wildlife”

From the moment we arrived until we left 4 days later it was amazing - the garden was a haven for wildlife- agouti’s running around,sloths, a howler monkey and iguanas in the trees,stunning frogs and lizards A beautiful relaxing place to stay - the best in Costa Rica for us so far - lovely clean pool and very comfortable accommodation - great air conditioning - with a balcony to watch the hummingbirds (still no photos!!)

“Quiet guesthouse in great location”

Wonderful guesthouse with a few apartments, a big lush garden and an amazing pool. The owners are very friendly and enthusiastic about nature and wildlife. They showed me many animals. The location is beyond great: the beach is just across the street and many nice restaurants and the national park are in walking distance.

“Perfect stopover in Cahuita”

The hosts were very accommodating making sure we saw and were educated about monkeys, sloths, frogs and birds in their beautiful garden. The room in colonial style guesthouse was very comfortable opposite beautiful Cahuita beach.

“Toller Ort zum entspannen”

We had a wonderful stay. The room was beautiful, and the park-like garden was truly amazing, with many animals that our children loved. The pool was also very nice and perfect for relaxing. As a family with two small children (ages 3 and 5), we felt extremely comfortable and welcome. It was a lovely place for families, and we really enjoyed our time there

“Fabulous!”

It is rare that accomodation exceeds your highest expectations but Playa Negra Guesthouse did. The house we stayed at with a friend had two rooms and kitchenette and a huge front balcony from which we could watch birds and animals. The pool area was beautiful and where we could also watch birds and animals. It was like having a personal safari. One morning there were 5 sloths in the garden! We stayed 6 nights, our time there was fabulous - rooms had fans & a/c and were spotless.

Pierre and Marise are great hosts and love to share their knowledge of the plants and animals in the garden. The location is good, right by the beach, and there are some great places to eat nearby.

“A slice of paradise in Cahuita”

We stayed with Marise & Pierre at Playa Negra Guesthouse in Room 4 and Room 1. Room 4 has the advantage of a balcony overlooking the tropical gardens and Room 1 is much bigger with a little from garden and sitting area. We loved both. There’s a fab pool, lots of wildlife to spot in the garden that Pierre plants to encourage them … and a sparkly black sand beach only a few steps away. We saw the largest iguanas here of anywhere we’ve seen in Costa Rica. Marise is a nice person, witty and extremely approachable, helping us out of a tight spot with our flight. She is the epitome of efficiency and happy to help with arrangements and advice. Clean, comfortable and competitively priced. Highly recommended.

“Beautiful spot in paradise”

So far the best part of our trip! The guest house is situated only meters from the amazing playa negra with waves that create bubbel baths after hitting you with a massaging wave. The garden is fantastic with lots of flowers och wildlife, and the room was comfortable with a private outdoor sitting area. What an oasis!

“Amazing stay in fantastic garden!”

Amazing place, the garden is like a botanical garden with loads of animals and at the same time so peaceful and nice. Lovely beach just outside the door so we spent the days jumping in waves and then chilling in the garden at the pool.

Everything, facilities and surroundings exceptional. My teenagers say it was their favourite place in Costa Rica. Garden is fantastic and full of wildlife, pool squeaky clean.

“Magical place to stay near the beach and the rainforest”

Absolutely stunning place and the highlight of our 2 week stay in Costa Rica. Stayed in the blue bungalow which was really spacious for 2 adults and 2 children and equipped with everything we needed. However, it is the location which is magical, feeling you are in the jungle and walking through gardens with adult and baby sloths in the trees amongst lots of other animals. The swimming pool was used a lot by the kids and the beach is just across the road. Also, lots of restaurants within walking distance. We enjoyed Rincón del amor and Restaurante pizzeria Cahuita. We also drove to Punta Uva for a caribe sur canoeing trip where we saw sloths and turtles and the bri bri tour where the kids enjoyed making chocolate. Playa Negra is really special and we found it hard to leave !

“Tropical Paradise”

I would give this guesthouse 7 stars if that were possible. The staff were exceptionally friendly & helpful. The grounds are a tropical paradise full of birds, butterflies & other wildlife. The rooms are clean & comfortable surrounded by the beautiful gardens.
