We had an absolutely outstanding stay at Stroomrivier Lodge and can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and memorable experience in South Africa. The property itself is simply stunning. The layout is incredibly spacious and thoughtfully designed – with separate houses for the bedrooms and the main living area (kitchen, dining, and lounge), which creates a wonderful sense of privacy while still feeling very connected. The outdoor living is just as impressive: generous terraces, a beautiful boma, and peaceful surroundings that invite you to fully unwind. One of the most magical aspects of this place is the setting. Overlooking a dam, we were lucky enough to watch rhinos and buffalo coming down to drink at night – an experience we will never forget. No matter where you are on the property, the views are spectacular. What truly made our stay exceptional, however, was the people. A special thank you to Godfrey, who went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. From organizing two incredible game drives to showing us how to fish. Nothing was ever too much to ask. Even though the lodge is self-catering, the team provided such thoughtful support – helping with dishes and ensuring everything ran smoothly – which made the stay feel effortlessly luxurious. This place is something truly special: a perfect blend of nature, comfort, privacy, and outstanding hospitality. We would come back anytime.

“An oasis”

Beautifully situated property next to a water hole, looking towards the hills in the distance. Well equipped and comfortable. We self catered but there was staff on hand to help clean and service. Property had a large fire pit and different areas to sit and relax.

Amazing setting - rhino’s and their calf grazed on the lawn right in-front of us! Godfrey is onsite 24 hours to attend to every need. Absolutely gorgeous place!

We had a truly wonderful time during our weekend getaway with a group of 12 close friends and family. From start to finish, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cared for—truly spoiling us with their hospitality. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the game drives, guided by the exceptional Ranger Godfrey. His deep knowledge of the land’s history and wildlife added so much depth to the experience, making each drive not only exciting but also educational. He took such thoughtful care of us—packing a cooler bag and blankets for the drives, Early evenings he spoiled us even more by lighting fires inside the home and at the outdoor fire pit to warm us and keep us cozy. Another unforgettable part of our stay was watching the wildlife roam freely right on our doorstep, gathering at the nearby watering hole. It was an incredible experience to witness such natural beauty so up close—something truly special that made our time there feel magical. Every morning, we woke to a spotless home, cleaned and prepared before we were even up, setting the tone for another day of fun and relaxation. We can’t recommend this venue highly enough to anyone who loves nature, tranquility, and the simple joy of being surrounded by beauty. It was an unforgettable experience, and we’re already looking forward to returning.

Our stay at Stroomrivier was exceptional. The location is stunning in the middle of a private reserve where we were visited by rhino and buffalo at our doorstep. The staff were also amazing, nothing was too much trouble and they made sure we were well looked after. Huge thank you to Godfrey for being such a champ and going above and beyond.

The finishes on the lodge and the unit are absolutely beautiful everything you need is catered for and the space is very well thought out for larger groups so you not in each others way. Such as walk in fridge and a separate bar fridge area for drinks etc. The animals come to drink at the dam in front of the property all day so you don’t need to leave the lodge to sight animals. The sunset game drive was an added bonus and lots of fun! Little details like ice in the freezer, mini tea/coffee section with bar fridge in the rooms, fire wood was unexpected and lovely. The staff were very helpful and well deserving of a tip! We were lucky enough to meet the owners and they were incredibly hospitable to our large family of 11. Pilanesberg National Park entrance Bakubung gate is a 30minute drive from the lodge which opens around 6am approximately R300 entrance fee for a car of 4 adults. Download a map online to self drive in the park. Or arrange a guided drive with game rangers at the park entrance. Pack binoculars and a cooler-box and spend a full day sighting the big 5. Highly recommend this beautiful lodge for big family groups! We will definitely be back.
