“Authentic Desert Camp – not a resort, but the real Oman”

If you’re looking for a luxury resort, stop reading here, this is not your place – if you want to truly experience Oman, you’re exactly right here. The camp is run by an Omani family from Bidiyya: brothers and brothers-in-law who host with genuine passion. Communication beforehand with Hamed via WhatsApp was smooth and reliable, the transfer punctual. The drive to the camp with Yusuf was already an experience in itself – he’s the kind of person who makes you feel welcome before you’ve even arrived. The camp sits right on top of the dunes, giving you an unobstructed view over the desert in every direction. Throughout the entire stay you feel the vastness of the landscape around you – no signs of civilisation, nothing but sand, sky and silence. The activities are the heart of the stay. Our choices: dune bashing and sunset – four brothers, four 4x4s, pure joy! Words barely do it justice. The next morning’s quad tour through the desert was a worthy finale. In the evening, stargazing with Ahmed, whose knowledge of astronomy, Oman, local and world culture is truly impressive. Tea under the desert sky, fascinating conversations with him and fellow guests – this was far more than a tourist checkbox. The most basic tent offered a breathtaking view, a comfortable bed and a fridge stocked with water and snacks. We woke up to the sunrise – straight from the mattress. On the way back, we made a spontaneous stop to take pictures with camels. These 20 hours had everything that makes a travel experience unforgettable: real people, real landscape, real hospitality. “Wonderful experience, worth to stay more than just one night!”

What an experience: sleeping in the desert while still having the comfort of a toilet and shower with comfortable beds and AC! The bungalow was big enough, the beda nice and hard, the toilet and shower usable. The terrace with picnic set and lounge chairs was super handy and often in use. The breakfast at the main area was sufficient and tasty.

“Pricey but worth it”

This was not a stay, it was an experience. Recommend to consider booking additional attractions like the dinner and dune rides. Breathtaking views. Maybe the food was not amazing for the price, but this is forgivable deep in the dessert. The domes are great and not too hot - nights are cold in the desert anyway. This is one of the deepest places in the desert you can book. Definitely have your own AWD or 4x4 car, our AWD worked well. The ride through the desert highway is a joy in itself.

“Unique experience under the stars”

There are lots of desert camps that offer similar experience and Milky Way Domes has all of them - dune bashing, camel riding, etc. But the unique thing that this camp has which other don't is a stargazing session in the evening with an expert. Hamad was very friendly and knowledgable and gave a great talk about the stars with a cool laser pointer that made it seem like we were in a planetarium. An unforgettable experience I highly recommend.

“A gem in the heart of the desert”

Spectacular location - a good drive into the desert, and you can follow the convoy if you have a 4WD car and not as confident driving in yourself. They give a meeting point and time just before the desert, which is very easy to reach. The hotel is a remote location truly showcasing the tranquillity within the desert, but yet somehow having all the facilities you'd need; food, water, enclosed dome with air conditioning, large bathroom and shower with constant good flow of hot water, tea/coffee making facilities with snacks, and even a bug spray! We opted for dinner which had a good selection, as did breakfast. Lovely night's stay at this perfect spot. Highly recommended

“Overall a great experience”

The room was well decorated and a spacious room. We had an amazing dinner for 8 OMR per person. We parked our vehicle at the meeting point which was easy to find and took the pickup vehicle for 25 OMR. Lots of activities to choose from. Overall a great experience!

The stay was well managed and enjoyable. The property is clean and maintained well. Plenty of options for activities in the desert. The sunset and sunrise are a treat to watch at this property. Dinner buffet was good. Coffee and dessert were being charged additionally in the buffet dinner, they should have been part of the buffet itself. Breakfast was average.

Beautiful destination. Friendly staff. Stargazing was a lot of fun. The conversations around the campfire with all the guests were very enjoyable. Breakfast and dinner were also well-organized. I definitely recommend this accommodation.

“Best option to see the Desert”

This place is really special and definitely a highlight for our trip to Oman. It is good to have a 4x4 to reach it, although the owners can also organize transport instead. The accomodation is great, spacious and very clean and offer great views on the nearby dunes. Do not miss the sunrise over the desert as it can be quite surprising in Winter (no spoilers:) There is a choice of activties on and off site and I strongly recommend dune bashing and sunset view and desert trip on the next day. Food is very good too and the Star gazing is very interesting!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A truly extraordinary desert experience — beyond anything we imagined! We stayed here for one night as a family of four and… WOW. This place is something special — unforgettable from the very first moment. We arrived with our rented 4x4 Nissan Patrol and met the team in Bidiyah at 14:30, where they released the air from our tires so we could drive safely through the dunes. The 30-minute ride to the camp was already magical — endless golden sand and complete silence. The moment we reached the camp, the adventure began: quad biking, then the kids went sandboarding, and after that we drove our own 4x4 across the soft dunes — absolutely amazing and so much fun. Later we had free time just to relax and enjoy the desert. Before dinner, Hamed gathered all guests under the stars for his famous astronomy talk — and this is the reason we chose THIS camp. I checked many others, and none offered anything like this. His knowledge of planets, constellations, and the night sky is incredible. Everyone was captivated. Then came dinner — generous, delicious, authentic, far better than we expected. After dinner, we all sat together in a huge semi-open tent around a fire, drinking tea and talking with other guests late into the night. The atmosphere was perfect — warm, friendly, and unforgettable. Later, we sat on our private terrace in front of our dome, watching the stars for a long time. We didn’t even want to go to sleep — the sky was unbelievably clear, and there are no other camps nearby, so the stargazing is perfect. In the morning we woke up early to watch the sunrise — please don’t miss this. Wake up 10 minutes before the sun comes out; watching it rise over the dunes in total silence is something you will remember forever. Record a time-lapse if you can! After sunrise, the kids went camel riding, followed by a very nice breakfast. We stayed only one night, but honestly, we regret not booking two.
