A gem of a homestay on the amazing Arborek island.

Run by a lovely, warm and helpful family who also speak English. They always have happy, smiling faces 😀 It’s (in our opinion) the best place to stay in Arborek. We’ve stayed there twice. The food Is really delicious, varied and plentiful. The water beneath the huts is full of young fish including stingrays. The reef out from the homestay is beautiful but can get some current. The area around the village - from the jetty and around to the east side - is more reliable for low current. We ended up only snorkelling on this trip but there was so much to see that it was as good as diving. The rooms are clean and located right over the water.

I had a great stay at Happy Homestay Arborek. Great location - Arborek island has a little village you can walk around, many shops, and nice snorkeling spots. The homestay was very comfortable compared to others in Raja Ampat! All the rooms have fans, sun beds and hammocks, toilets even have a flush. Electricity is on all night, and strong wifi when it is on. Eggy speaks great English and was super helpful in helping book tours and transport.

Worth the experienced, definitely will be back

Amazing stay at Arborek Homestay. The host and family were incredibly kind and welcoming, making us feel like part of the village. The room was clean, comfortable, and right by the sea. Waking up with an ocean view and snorkeling just steps from the homestay was unforgettable. The food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommended if you want an authentic Raja Ampat experience. This is a local island homestay, not a luxury resort, and that is exactly what we loved about it. The atmosphere was peaceful, friendly, and authentic. Yes, cottages are close to each other, but that is normal in Arborek village, and we still had plenty of privacy and beautiful sea views. We stayed for 9 nights, which gave us a good understanding of the place. Like anywhere in a remote island setting, villages celebrating Christmas and new years , but nothing that affected our comfort or enjoyment. Overall, it was a peaceful, quiet, and very relaxing stay During our stay, we had rain and wind as well, which is normal weather in Raja Ampat, but we did not experience any leaking roof or wet mattress. Our room stayed dry and comfortable, and airflow actually helped with the heat during the day. The food was fresh, healthy, and cooked daily. Meals were simple but tasty, using local ingredients. We never had any issues with food quality or hygiene and felt completely safe eating all meals provided. The snorkeling in front of the homestay was excellent, with healthy coral and many fish, and the manta spot nearby is a big bonus. The hosts were kind, helpful, and spoke good English. Overall, we felt very happy with our stay and believe Happy Arborek Homestay offers a true Raja Ampat experience for travelers who appreciate nature and local culture. We would gladly stay here again

Best homestay at Arborek

The bungalows were very pretty and modern, also the few was amazing, we saw a little school of dolphins passing by almost every day. The house reef is also good for snorkeling, even saw a little walking shark hiding under a coral. The food was simple (as everywhere in Raja Ampat) but good. The family hosting the homestay is very nice, the son handles communication via what's app, speaks very good English and asked if everything is fine several times during our stay. His family doesn't speak much English but they were always smiling and lovely! The shared bathroom offers western toilets and showers and additionally bucket showers (which we ended up using more often).

Great food - highly recommend. Lovely staff.

Usal is a wonderful cook. We had great food for our 4 day stay, there was some sort of fish dish everyday. And there was plenty of it. The bed was comfy even though it was a Mattress on the floor. Toilets and showers were clean enough. They have no diving at the homestay but we went diving with Aborek dive homestay and it was brilliant. (Not aborek dive shop - they had terrible equipment) you can snorkel right from the homestay. The reef is AMAZING - sharks / rays / eels / crocodile fish / Lion fish / shrimps - just fantastic!

Very upset... We didnt feel welcomed when we arrived, nobody introduced us to the facilities. They didnt mention the pickup from Wasai was 1'000'000 rp, just asked for the money as soon as we arrived. When the owners came to pick us up in Wasai they didnt even say hello to us, very rude! They were obsessed with money, first thing coming up in the conversation when we were planning boat trips. We didnt have enough cash to pay for a boat trip, my bank would take three days for processing the payment and they would remind us every day they still didnt get the money. We also got severe skin allergies behind the tighs due to the contact with the matresss (dirt or insects?) we dont know and no sheet to sleep with we had to use our sorong. Finally, one payment for a specific boat trip didnt go through on time when we left, again they texted me every day to know where is the money, while I kept telling them we would pay but we had issues with our bank (indonesia high risk country for payments), when they actually got the money, they didnt even send a confirmation message. We planned a lot of boat trips with them for 9.8 million rp + we stayed 9 days with them and paid 34 CHF per person, so 68 per day and when we asked a commercial gesture for the boat transfer back to Wasai (1 million) they refused even to offer just 200'000 rp. Then, when we planned an expensive boat trip to Wayag (6 millions) they lied to us saying it would take 4 hours round trip, whereas it took 9 hours in total, they lied to make sure we would go and pay for the boat trip. The owners dont speak english, it's complicated to communicate with them and when we talk to them they dont bother making eye contact as if we have no significance to them except from our money. Last but not least, it's called sunset homestay but we dont see the sunset from there. We dont recommend this place, there are a lot of other guesthouse on the island which are much nicer.
