I don't even know where to start! - This was the most incredible room! We booked the Western-Style Room with Tatami Area with Indoor Bath and Open-Air bath. It was the best decision ever!!! The actual room was just beautiful. Everything about it! Amazing view. Top quality skin care packages in the gorgeous bathroom. The indoor and outdoor Onsen's were incredible after lots of walking during the day. The complex has a laundry. The Chefs and the meals were delicious. But the most important thing is the staff - the entire team. Nothing was too much of a bother. They were all friendly, helpful, professional and caring - even with our very limited amount of Japanese. The communication via email before and after was excellent. We loved Beppu - it was our favourite place to visit and a big part of that was because of the staff at Kannawaen! We would stay here again and again and again!

Our stay at Kannawaen was such a uniqe experience. We booked the room "Take", and it was so worth it having our own pool and other baths. Booked it with dinner and breakfast, and the dinner was one of the best we had on our trip to Japan. It was worth the splurge! Would come back again. We also got a present of two bottles of fine wine for free when we checked out. The hotel is also right beside the Beppu Hells.

“I would not recommend this ryokan to foreigners. The villa has not privacy whatsoever.”
Private onsen. However, you need to stir the water all the time so that you don’t get burnt. I had a contusion in my back from leaning on the edge of the private onsen which the hotel did nothing about. Don’t expect a quiet getaway with this ryokan, you can hear the Korean tourist guide on loud speaker starting 9am till after sunset.

The property reached out to us beforehand to check on the needs of my kids and when I told them my daughter had a milk allergy, went out of their way to ensure that appropriate measures were taken to cater to her. We felt very welcome.

“Would stay again if come to Beppu”
Best location in the town, very close to a few Jigoku sites Sora Kan is up on the hill, so the view was great. Very friendly and helpful staff, free shuttle to Beppu station makes it very convenient after all

“As relaxing as a hotel stay can ever be.”
Absolutely stunning hotel and room. I’ve never felt as relaxed as I have staying at a hotel before, the room with the private onsen is 100% worth it. We tried both the breakfast and the dinner (not the tenpanyaki option), and the food was delightful albeit pricey. Location wise the hotel is perfect if you want to see the hot springs, being practically in between 2 of the 7 hells. Would definitely come again if I’m ever stressed.
