This bed and breakfast has a very old-fashioned feel, reminiscent of a time when travelers didn't just stay in some random hotel as strangers, but when they were welcomed into someone's personal home as valued guests. It felt more like staying in a friend's guest bedroom than an inn. The whole vibe was very cozy and intimate. One afternoon, we came back from a trip to a nearby museum, and the host let us know there was a baby sleeping in the room next to ours. We settled quietly in to watch a movie until the baby awoke. Some guests might not like having to consider other guests during their stay, but that's what chain hotels are for. We loved the overall feeling of a family home. This is 100% a place to bring kids and family. That said, my partner and I don't have kids, and we felt just as catered to. Our bedroom was immaculate, the bed and linens were extremely comfortable, the bathroom was perfectly clean and well-stocked. Josephine was SUCH an indulgent host! We felt completely looked after. On our first morning there, we overslept a bit, and she even knocked on our door to ask if we were coming to breakfast, because she didn't want us to miss out. We were so grateful, because the breakfast was incredible! There were plenty of self-serve options, like yogurt and toast. But she also made us our own breakfast from a menu. I chose a classic Irish breakfast, and my partner chose pancakes. Both were DELICIOUS. My partner and I went to the Mullet peninsula to get away for a few days. We were exhausted from traveling and wanted to stay somewhere off the beaten path. We found just that, along with spectacular views on the drive to the peninsula. Co. Mayo is beautiful. There is also a historic lighthouse on the peninsula, as well as a visitor's center with fabulous exhibits on the natural and cultural history of the region. I cannot wait to go back and stay here again!

“The perfect B&B retreat in North Mayo”
Josephine and Mattie were the perfect hosts - we were welcomed in as if family and they were ready with lots of great local recommendations for things to do. Their home was a gorgeous retreat for us and the delicious breakfasts a perfect start to the days. We couldn’t recommend them more highly - we need more B&Bs like this!

“Excellent accommodation in all areas. Highly recommend”
What a fabulous place to stay. Josephine welcomed us warmly with tea and cake which was most welcome. Our room was very comfortable with quality bedding and fittings and a lovely view across fields with the mainland on the horizon. Breakfast was superb and served in the beautiful conservatory. The bacon was excellent, perfectly poached eggs and fruit, yoghurt, cereal and great tea. Really set us up for the day. If we return to Belmullet we wouldn’t look anywhere else.

“Lovely rooms, amazing host and beautiful location”
Bru Chlann Lir is in a beautiful majestic location. Our rooms were lovely. They were extremely clean, the beds comfortable and the shower was great. We were made to feel so welcome by Josephine throughout our stay. She has a wealth of knowledge about the local area with great advice on the things not to be missed. The breakfast each morning was delicious, with plenty of choice and great quality food. We recommend the boat trip to the inishkea islands. It was one of the highlights of our trip. We will definitely do a return trip.
