Mama Tungus is the best hostel we’ve stayed in during our time in Ecuador. We moved here from the Great Backpacker Hostel and found it much nicer. The rooms were really well-equipped and clean. Overall, there was a very friendly and pleasant atmosphere. The pool was nice and cool and the hot tub warm – perfect combi. The staff were all very friendly and helpful (: They offer every tour you need. It’s a bit out of the way, but that’s exactly what I particularly liked. There are a few waterfalls you can reach on foot. All in all, we had a great time and will definitely be back ((:

Relaxed, friendly, clean. Perfect place to unwind or take advantage of the various activities onsite and offsite. It’s just won the best Hostel of Ecuador and from our travels we would add South America.

Great hostel with an amazing pool! Loads of places to chill and it's super relaxing as it's outside of town. Room got cleaned every day, beds were super comfortable and the room was nice and spacious!

“Great stay, one of my favourite hostels!”

Located outside of the city, it was a quiet and calm spot to relax. The hostel was clean and calm and the staff were friendly and helpful. I arrived on New Year’s Eve and there was a dinner organized in the hostel, which was really nice. There’s a waterfall and viewpoint close by and it’s easy enough to get to Baños by taxi. You can also organise activities through the hotel, or relax by the pool or in a hammock!

“Lovely hostel slightly out of town”

Hostel is very well organized. There is a pool and a jacuzzi, a bar and a restaurant. The staff is amazing and always helpful. Seb, the manager, is the best at organising excursions (and the excursions are cheaper than if you book them in town). We had a private room with balcony and was big and comfortable. Hostel is surrounded by nature but a bit out of town, so it is great for those wanting to relax and to do activities organized by the hostel during the day. To go to town, you need a taxi. It is 2.5 usd (3 usd at night) and the hostel helps you organize it.

Super complete hostal, pool, jacuzzi, workout area, waterfall within 2min, bars, tree house. Great mix between social and quiet

“Super nice hostel if you want to spoil yourself”

Jacuzzi, pool, bar, restaurant, really confortable rooms. The staff are also super lovely. I forgot my phone in the taxi, and the receptionist and manager of the hostel helped me get it back, including calling the taxi rank and driving me to where it was, once I’d been able to track it. Incredibly grateful for their help!!

“The word “perfect” is all it takes to describe Mama Tungu.”

It’s a clean, well-maintained hostel with excellent facilities and exceptionally helpful staff. The manager, Seb, goes above and beyond to ensure everything runs smoothly and is always ready to assist with anything you need. Hostels like Mama Tungu are truly rare, there should be more of them!

We had a truly wonderful stay at the Mama Tungu Hostel. Right from the beginning, when we arrived, we received a free upgrade for our rooms, which were super clean and very comfortable. There’s so much to experience at the Mama Tungu Hostel — from rafting to canyoning to quad biking. We met some really great people there and had a lovely time. What was especially cool was the manager, Seb, who was always available, organized everything, and even joined in on the activities himself, making sure we all had a fantastic time. The highest recommendation to anyone who just wants to have a great time. And once again, a big thank you to the hostel for these wonderful memories.

“Sweet little oasis on top of the mountain”

Amazing staff, good food, good vibes. Would recommend everyone to chill hear at the pool and jacuzzi and to some yoga in the garden

The hostel is beautiful, the staff is very attentive, and overall it's a really fun place to be. The food is delicious, the bar is amazing, and the people at the hostel are always friendly, fun, and incredibly helpful.

Mama Tungu is situated in a lovely location, and my friends and I enjoyed the variety of the menu and the quality of the food.

We had a wonderful stay at the Mama Tungu hostal. Unfortunately my friend was sick during our stay in Baños. Carlos from the reception took really good care of her when I was away & the kitchen team made special tea for her! Super kind! The Mama Tungu hostal offers very offordable and really nice tours. The food in the hostel is also great! The location is a bit outside of Baños, but the friendly house taxi driver will bring you for a cheap price to the center of Baños. I would definitely recommend this place (and come back myself ;))

“A very relaxing and amuzing stay”

The atmosphere was really good and people were super nice, staff and other visitors. The hostal is so nice for how much you pay for, it has everything to have a relaxing stay or a lot of fun activities.

We booked to stay here a few nights to unwind after a busy period of travel, which was a great choice. The staff are all lovely and helpful, the location is really peaceful with waterfalls and viewpoints ~15 minutes walk away, and the communal facilities are great (pool, jacuzzi, table tennis, ps5). We were given a free upgrade to a room with a balcony - the room felt like a hotel room, very modern and well looked after, with a bath and a hammock on the balcony. Food is decent and decently priced, and there are bikes to hire for $10 to do the Ruta de las Cascadas, plus you can book rafting, canyoning etc through the hostel. Bar on site too with beer happy hour and a separate cocktail happy hour later on, but it wasnt a party hostel (we stayed in June so high season, but it wasn't too busy). Ended up extending our stay by 2 nights - loved chilling out here

“Good value for money!”

The strong water pressure was great, and having a jacuzzi was a nice bonus.

It's the perfect place to stay. I really loved it and the jacuzzi is great!
