The ibis Bamberg Altstadt is a bit older than the hotels I usually stay in, and the cleanliness could have been slightly better. However, it was comfortable overall, and I had two pleasant nights there.

“In my opinion a discount hotel, but without discount prices.”
To my surprise Hotel Ibis Bamberg Altstadt tends to avoid almost any human contact with its customers: Guests are asked – almost obligatorily – to check in electronically in advance. There is no cleaning of the rooms (unless you insist) and the breakfast hall is entirely based on self-service. The school girls working in the kitchen were unable to fix the defective juice machine, and none of them took initiative in supplying replacement juice from a nearby grocery store. The scrambled eggs were burnt, the pan cakes were chopped into pieces imitating scrambled eggs, the cheese dish was not refilled when emptied. In the hotel room the woodwork was crying out for paint.

“Amazing value for money hotel in a great location!”
The location was brilliant. We were able to park under the hotel and within a minute walking, we were in the lanes, accessing lovely bars with courtyards, shops, markets etc. We loved the location as it was just off the high volume tourist main street and so was a little bit quieter than those streets. Our rooms were big and bright, with large opening windows, however the bathrooms were smaller but totally functional. We would definitely stay here again!
