Set on Grand Costa Maya, this hotel is only 500 metres from the spectacular Bacalar Lagoon band features an outdoor pool and free parking. WiFi in public areas is available. The air-conditioned rooms come with cable TV and private bathroom with hot water shower. Hotel Hacienda Bacalar is a colonial-style building with archways and brightly-painted walls. There is a cafeteria and a mini market and for entertainment, there is a library room, board games, massage chair and bikes rental are available. Bacalar has been declared one of Mexico’s magic towns, offering many places of cultural interest such as the San Felipe Fortress or the Azul Cenote. Chetumal city and its airport are 40 minutes’ drive away.

“Go elsewhere”
Rooms are run down and old. Aircon hardly works. The electricity doesn’t work properly not sure what voltage they use but 1/3 drone batteries charged over night. Receptionists also have no idea, unhelpful and hard to deal with. For the money what do you expect; but if you book, only book it discounted on booking.com otherwise you’ll be greatly disappointed

“Not recommended”
Locals in Bacalar laugh when they are told one is staying there. It’s one of the first hotels there but hasn’t been maintained for a while. - no room service but they would still ask for tips - the room was not soundproof at all. Everything from the accommodation was clearly audible. Especially the buzz of the air-conditioning of adjacent rooms was so loud that even with ear plugs it was difficult to sleep. - Lots of pigeons were right at the windows, making constantly noise and defecating at the window. Windows need to be closed properly to avoid pigeons coming in. - Bed was not comfortable. Pillows were too hard and the duvet was very thin. - Last but not least a high-voltages electric power line was next to the room outside.

Liked: Size of the room, cleanliness and the pool! Less great: No wifi in the room and even at reception sometimes poor, no fridge available to use, one particular member of staff at reception unhelpful and rude (other staff members were nice).
