Overview
Larramendi Torrea is set next to the Urola River, 10 minutes’ walk from the historic centre of Azkoitia. The stone building, dating from 1413, offers modern rooms with free wired internet. Featuring wooden floors, the heated rooms have a flat-screen satellite TV. Each has a private bathroom with a shower, hairdryer and free toiletries. “Never judge a book by its cover”
This hotel is very much a case of 'don't judge a book by its cover'. From the location on Google Maps, it's apparent the hotel is in an industrial estate type area, surrounded by a petrol station and a large Spanish supermarket. However, once you walk through the front gates and into the beer garden for the bar, it's like a little sanctuary from what's outside. There are tall hedges, trees and birds singing, with lovely views up high into the surrounding mountains. The hotel itself is a modern chalet style building, that is immaculate and well run. The adjoining bar and restaurant appears to be very busy with locals drinking and dining there, whilst not staying at the hotel i.e. a good sign of quality food and drink. I ate dinner there during my stay and was very impressed with both the variation on the menu and the quality. I'd definitely recommend staying here if in the area or if, like me, you had to catch the ferry the following day from Bilbao.
