Staying at Kaldemerini Residence was one of the most beautiful experiences of my time on the island of Astypalaia. Perched gently on the hillside, the residence offers breathtaking views over the shimmering sea and the charming whitewashed town, with its iconic castle crowning the horizon. The architecture perfectly combines Cycladic simplicity with thoughtful elegance — bright, airy and very traditional rooms, tasteful details, and private terraces where the morning light dances across the blue of the Aegean. The heart of this place, however, is Katerina Aggeli, the wonderful host who makes you instantly feel like part of her family. Her warmth, generosity, and attention to every detail turn a stay into a true homecoming. Each morning, she prepares a delicious breakfast with homemade marmalade and daily surprises — sometimes a traditional Greek pastry, sometimes fresh fruit or a local delicacy, for me it was a Greek but with a French twist, delicious and creative, always made with love and care. And if you are lucky and she has the time, she might surprise you with a taste of her extraordinary home cooking. The cleanliness of the residence is impeccable, the atmosphere calm and full of light, and every corner reflects Katerina’s sense of harmony and hospitality. Kaldemerini Residence is not just accommodation — it is a place of serenity, beauty, and connection. A perfect home away from home on the butterfly-shaped island of Astypalaia.

Fantastic and varied selection at breakfast with different items offered each day in addition to the standard menu. Location was a 10 minute walk from the Chora and a 15 -20 minute walk to Livadi beach. Accommodation was quiet and peaceful.

Lovely house with traditional forniture. The house is very beautiful with a breath-taking view on the Livadi gulf and beach. In 10 minutes you can reach the Chora by feet which is real essential as there are no easy parking slots available in the Chora. Very Clean with very comfortable bathroom and shower. The breakfast is really yummy with local fresh products served daily on a terrace with a fantastic view.

What a beautiful escape!! Kalderimi Residencies is perfectly located, a few minutes walk, close to Chora & Livadi beach. The apartment spotlessly clean and very tasteful with an exceptional view over the bay. The breakfast just absolutely delicious! The whole team is an example of Greek hospitality. Warm, kind - just wonderfully Greek.

“A delight”

The accommodation was stylishly beautiful. So many delightful touches. Katerina had developed everything herself over the past 17+ years. Lovely views of the chora, castle and Livadi Bay. Adonis, her son, collected us from the port, and on our last day hired us a car letting us keep it to drive down to the port for the very early ferry on our final morning and leave the car there for him to collect. The girl who served us at breakfast - we did not get her name - was a delight; and next time we'll remember her name because we shall be back. In 20 years travelling the Greek islands this is one of the best places we have stayed.

We loved the individuality of the.room and the simplicity of the furnishings, the warm welcome from the owner, Katerina, her son, Antonis who arranged car hire, and from Anna, her assistant. The breakfasts were excellent, something special and different each morning, freshly made by Katerina. This is our fifth time here.

The breakfast was magnificent and the staff were extremely friendly, polite and helpful offering useful information and “tips” about the island, places to see, places to relax and enjoy swimming and sun bathing, as well as local cuisine and gastronomy!
