Sozankyo is a traditional Japanese-style inn with both indoor and outdoor hot spring baths. Located within the Aso Uchimaki Onsen Hot Spring Area, it provides free Wi-Fi in public areas. Charming Japanese-style rooms and rooms with Western beds all come with a TV, electric kettle and personal safe. All rooms have an en suite toilet. Guests have free access to private and public hot spring baths. Sozankyo is a 10-minute drive from Aso Station and 25 km from Aso-zan Mountain. Free parking is available. Special Japanese set meals are served for breakfast at Komorebi dining room, which offers a traditional multi-course Kaiseki dinner. Relaxing massage treatments are available. Guests can also wash their clothes at the coin-operated laundry area.

The staff were delightful and very helpful with sending our luggage. Every time we entered the hotel we were welcomed by a staff member who also put our shoes in on the shoes shelf for us. It was really unnecessary and we insisted we could do it ourselves, but still I appreciate it. The private Onsens were very clean and the water temperature was just right. One of them (the left one on the brochure at the reception) has a beautiful and relaxing view. The breakfast was ryokan style and was delicious and aesthetic.

Traditional Ryokan with exceptional service by polite and friendly staff. Dinner and Breakfast prepared with local produce. Comfortable beds, amazing quality of hot spring brought into the property directly from the near by water source that makes your skin so smooth after bathing. This place has been running over 100 years. Make sure to take a look of a beautiful room on the ground floor kept as original condition how Akiko Yosano and her husband used to stay. Absolutely gorgeous place.

Very beautiful ryokan-style hotel with an elegantly curated garden. Cosy common areas and lovely breakfast spread served kaiseki-style. Private baths available to reserve for free once a day for guests.

“Good size rooms with comfortable beds”
We asked for western style beds and we got it, in all three rooms. Meals were good. The waiter serving our meals was really good, patient polite and helpful.

“The staff is very helpful and the stay is amazing”
Our stay was in early December and I can’t thank their staff enough. They were so friendly and nice, helped us to get the taxi and being extremely helpful for everything. We are so touched by the services. The room and everything were nice. There was a private Onsen you can use for free once during the stay. The breakfast was good too with Aso milk. We really enjoyed the stay and will definitely recommend this!

food for both dinner and breakfast were great. the hotel also checked in with us beforehand if we eat horse meat, and it can be switched to other types of meat (e.g. beef) if one does not consume horse meat. room was a good size and comfy, there was a toilet and shower in the room. there are 2 private onsens available for use, can book the timeslot you want when you check in, one room was only entitled to reserve one timeslot per night's stay, each timeslot is 45min.

Nice modern-style ryokan with decent onsen baths. A bit old sometimes despite the fact it was recently refurbished. Very very nice rooftop bar, rare in Japan.

Nice wooden decor inside. Classic ryokan with tutami mats but with twin beds. Onsen baths were nice. Attentive, earnest staff. Quiet Nice shops in area

“Relaxing one”
I was touched when we arrived there, a guy was standing around the corner and he showed us the place of parking. Everyone was kind enough for our staying. We enjoyed old nice hot spring.
