Located amid nature at the base of Mount Aso, El Patio Ranch offers a retreat in a Western American theme, with horse-back riding, a Western goods shop and American barbecue. Rooms feature a balcony and free wired internet. American themed rooms are carpeted, while rooms in Santa Fe style feature a wooden floor and quilts on the beds. All rooms come with floor-to ceiling windows, a seating area with a sofa and a TV. They have an attached toilet, whereas bathrooms are shared. While staying at the ranch, you can enjoy horseback riding on the outside course (for a fee). At nights, they can enjoy views of a star-filled sky, not hindered by city lights. The hotel offers a soothing hot public bath, separate for men and women. Featuring benches overlooking the horse-riding tracks, Restaurant El Patio serves American food including barbecued food, burgers, and other typically American dishes,Steak at lunchtime. Ranch El Patio is 20 minutes by car to Kurokawa Onsen. JR Miyachi Station is a 20-minute drive.

“Great 2nd visit”
I visited for the second time and it was just as amazing as the first. This time I decided to try horse riding, which was fantastic – definitely recommend it! Plus, the staff were absolutely lovely.

There is a cowboy and cowgirl onsen for guests to use, which is a distance away from our room. Although the temperature was near zero that evening, the yukata and the Mizuno robe provided was surprisingly able to keep the cold weather out as we walked to the onsen. And we were blessed with clear sky that night, which we were able to enjoy the starry sky. There is electric bed or blanket provided on our bed, and it’s the first time I tried using it. Don’t set the thermostat to the highest, as it could get quite warm under the blanket.

“A hidden gem”
I had an absolutely fantastic stay. The staff were super nice, friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were both amazing (the BBQ was a real highlight). The room was clean, modern and had a beautiful view. The private onsen you can book for an hour was also perfect. If I am ever back in Aso-Kuju, I’ll be definitely staying here again.

“Very satisfactory”
The hotel room has a magnificent view. We can see the grass field and sunrise in the morning. The hotel room is excellent, neat, clean, comfortable and tidy. The staff was nice and helpful. We went for the horse riding tour the other day and the staff were happy to explain the horses to us.
