Asahikawa City Hotel

Location, it is right in the centre of the city, only 10 to 15 min walk from the railway and bus stations.. The staff were helpful. They were trying to do their best. Hotel has the old time charm.

Amazing

I normally never write feedback, but this accomodation and the hospitality was so amazing so I had to! Really really cute hosts that provided us everytime we came back with hot tea and snacks, the homemade japanese breakfast was super delicious and the accomodation was warm and perfectly heated. I would definitely recommend this ryokan.

Thank you so much for the amazing stay

The hosts were so friendly and always so helpful! We really appreciate their kindness and generosity! The accomodation was so cute with a very adorable cat that would greet us every day. Everyday when we came back we were treated with a hot tea and a sweat treat.

Breakfast was like any typical Japanese set, though this one was incredibly delicious, using local ingredients. Location was near the main shopping streets, making this ryokan a convenient place to stay. Staff were also highly attentive and hospitable, even waving us goodbye until we were out of sight.

They were the nicest hosts I have ever met. I booked because it was affordable, but I was surprised with tea, fruit, help drying my wet shoes, a ride to the station, and even a farewell gift. They truly made my stay special!

The hosts were so friendly and accommodating. I had to reschedule due to illness and they were very understanding. The room was comfortable, the bath was nice at the end of the day, and the breakfast was a treat. It was quiet and I didn’t see too many other people while I was there. They also let me park my motorcycle in their garage and helped me get it out in the morning. Wonderful ryokan, wonderful hosts.

The host and his daughter were the most thoughtful hosts ever. They even gave us a lift to Asahikawa JR train station when we left. Healthy and value-for-money breakfast sets (structured as a teishoku (定食), a set meal that includes a variety of dishes served together) available for 1,000 yen. The property has tatami mat floors in its rooms; they also provide most comfortable futon beds ever with buckwheat pillows, a nod to Showa-era ryokans. We were given two rooms - a living room and a bedroom with separate keys. The living room has a low table, so guests should get used to seiza (正座), which is kneeling on the floor or a tatami mat, with your knees together and feet flat. Guests should note that bathrooms, sinks, and toilets are separate and communal, as is customary in a Showa-era ryokan. The shower also has a hot bath available between 7pm and 11pm. You may also need to carry luggage up the stairs, as there is no lift here. It's really a no-frills window to past, traditional Japanese hospitality.
