As people who rarely stay in hostels—and had very little hostel experience before this trip—we were pleasantly surprised by Maya Papaya. We booked a private double room facing the bar area and, despite our initial concerns, we never found the room to be noisy. The social atmosphere was lively without being disruptive. The room itself was extremely small—smaller than we expected. It felt a little cramped at times, with no chair or small table to place bags or personal items, and only one set of hangers, which wasn't quite enough for our needs. However, for a hostel, the room was clean and functional. One area where Maya Papaya really stood out was the communal facilities. The shared bathrooms and showers were consistently clean, well maintained, and in great condition throughout our stay. The highlight of the hostel was definitely the bar and happy hour. The staff created a fun, welcoming atmosphere that made it easy to meet people and relax. In fact, one evening we planned to have a single drink before heading out to explore Antigua, but the vibe was so good that we ended up staying there all night instead. The hostel strikes a great balance between authentic Antigua charm and a modern, clean environment. Even as travelers who don't typically choose hostels, we had a genuinely enjoyable stay. I would happily recommend Maya Papaya to others and would consider returning on a future visit to Antigua.

Very clean and comfortable rooms, and bathroom. The stuff is very friendly. Alexis and Carlos wants to make you feel good all time, great job. For me great to have a small sports station with pull-up bar and yoga mats :)

Perfect location and super clean! The staff especially Carlos and Ronald were incredible, friendly and helpful. Extra bonus the three lovely dogs living at the hostel! Great social environment and lovely happy hour drinks. I would definitely book again if I am back in Antigua!

Very clean, great facilities including a gym, and lovely breakfast. Great location everything is in walking distance and they let us leave our bags there while we did the volcano hike which was appreciated.

The crew was amazing. Very friendly and there was always someone to help me in case of needs. Great place to stay during your trip in Guatemala!

Small cozy hostel with a great atmosphere. Enjoyed some yoga in the small garden in the morning and did a work out. Bar was perfect, breakfast amazing and staff super friendly and helpful! Walking tour was perfect to get to know Antigua! We used the pool if the Partner hostel after our Acatenango hike to relax a bit. Nice Add-on!

Great location right in the centre of Antigua. Spotlessly, comfortable. Breakfast included was really good. Would highly recommend this place!

“Great facilities, location and vibe”

Really nice place, incredibly facilities (particularly the bathroom, chilled areas). I was a solo female traveller, and found it easy to meet people at breakfast (which was really good). I didn’t really see the evening happy hour, but I don’t think it was particularly busy. But for solo travellers I would recommend doing a walking tour (found one online called guru travellers) - this was a really good way to meet people who I spent all my time with in Antigua

The staff were super friendly and kind. I had some trouble losing my passport and they were really attentive and supportive in helping me locate it even when it wasn’t lost at the hostel. Separately, the wash/shower facilities are great, much better than many hostels I’ve stayed in. Spacious, private and good!
