It is a very authentic experience! The owner is justifiably proud of his heritage and he gave us a tour of his home. The evening meal was delicious. An extremely thoughtful host.

Everything! Mr Ryu was very kind and thoughtful, the house was incredibly beautiful, the food was amazing. Staying at Bukchondaek has genuinely been one of the most special experiences I've had in Korea and I've got memories I'll treasure forever. I can't wait to go back!

“A really special experience”

This is a really special place to stay the night in the lovely Hahoe village. It's the most beautiful house in the village, and Mr. Ryu, whose family's home it has been for nine generations, is a charming host. We have stayed in lovely modernised hanoks around South Korea, and it was a great experience to stay in a traditional-style house as well. The dinner cooked by Mrs. Ryu was so delicious, some of the best food we've had in the country, and Mr. Ryu's tour of the house was fascinating and we were honoured that he would share his family's impressive history with us. It's wonderful to see how much he cares about his family home, and how well he preserves it for future generations (it must be hard work!). Note that the traditional futon mats on the floor may be a bit hard for some people's backs, and the bathroom is private but across the courtyard - but it's definitely worth it to experience a night in this wonderful house!

We stay in the master suite as a family and it is an incredible experience! Everything is perfect, beautiful, well kept, clean and tidy and you feel like in a movie! Dinner and breakfast were delicious! The host was very friendly and helpful.

The village is amazing. The house/complex is in the highest part of the village. All buildings have been preserved for more than 300 years. The family's attempt to preserve all buildings in its original state has been very successful. The host is an amazing person with the ability to transmit the importance of preserving his heritage as a communal (rather than individual) experience. The food was delicious and the surroundings soothing and restful.

Bukchondaek is a fine example of Hanoe style homes and staying here really enhanced our time and experience in Andong Hahoe village.

We loved everything about the place! The owner and generations before him have kept the house in perfect and traditional condition, and we were given so much information about the home - which we really appreciated and enjoyed! The breakfast was HUGE and delicious. You couldn’t ask for anything more!

“The most authentic hanok traditional experience”

The best experience I had in Korea! Me and my family wanted to experience traditional staying in Hanok house in Korea since we are enthusiastic about Korean Traditional Culture. The owner received us in the evening and showed us to our room. The experience of sleeping in the traditional futon sheets and experience the Ondol system( which warms up the floor) was amazing. I felt as if I traveled back in time. In the morning we had a delicious Korean breakfast with soup, meat patties, japchae and some persimmons from the owners yard. Afterwards, the owner showed us the house and talked about his family's heritage. The most exciting part was when he showed us amazing clothing and accessories from more than 200 years ago. I super recommend 👌

Historic surroundings and an incredible host.

Absolutely everything - authenticity, caring owner, beautiful and calm surroundings. It is a truly unique place where everything is thought about until the slightest details. By the way, we were offered korean meals’ dinners that were just delicious. I would certainly recommend staying in Bukchondaek for anyone travelling in Andong region.
