“Historic, relaxed and romantic hotel which puts the guest experience first”

It's not often that we like a hotel enough to give a score of 10, but this is one such hotel visit. This hotel should be a model for others to follow. For a start, our welcome was exceptionally warm and friendly, but in a natural French way. The building is a piece of history and renovated with attention to historic features. Instead of trying to fit as many rooms as possible into the space, the owners have left furnished communal quiet spaces with books, some dating to early last century. There are comfy settees, antique writing desks and much local information. We were in "room" 8, which was more of a suite than a room, with wonderful views of the channel and great features. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the traditional French bath (build for two). The breakfast room was available from our time of arrival in the evening! A limited range of snacks and juice, coffee, tea etc. were available all night. Breads, eggs, croissants etc. were added for breakfast. Breakfast started from 8 am but without a deadline. There was no pressure to leave by a particular time in the morning and it was really nice to just take our time and enjoy the surroundings. Other hotels should pay attention and go back to the mid-day departure former norm. If they could clean rooms in 3 hours 20 years ago, there is no reason why they can't do it now. No "saving the environment" notices for clean towels. I commend the owners for not being tempted to follow the hotel herd. So this hotel really puts the comfort and wellbeing of the guest first, and the best part was that cost is very reasonable for the great experience. I highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely converted mill (we were even shown the old workings of it ) at the edge of a village. Great spacious bedrooms. Everything very clean. The bonus being the restaurant on site which is run in part by young people with disabilities. Very welcoming and friendly. Lovely chateau open to the public in Ancy le Franc itself.

“Lovely stay with little hiccups”

The mill lies on an island and is surrounded by water, peace and serenity. The garden is perfect for relaxing and the view of the little harbor is sublime. The whole atmosphere is casual and relaxed without sacrificing comfort. The room was large and well-appointed, with one of the best mattresses I’ve ever slept on, and the bedding was excellent. The bathroom was generous-sized with high quality fixtures. On the whole, the investments made here create a house that has the potential to please highly discerning guests.

We loved the location, the ambience of the property and the most welcoming hosts. The property is beautiful, the accommodation very comfortable and the hosts were so inviting and welcoming.

Once we found the property there was nothing not to like. The room was incredibly spacious and the fixtures and fittings were of an incredibly good quality. My stay was only overnight, but it would be an excellent base. Unfortunately the weather meant no walks along the canal.

Beautifully restored mill with spacious bedrooms. Very welcoming hosts. Fantastic location between the canal and river. We had a lovely walk along the canal to a small cafe for a drink in the sunshine. Highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

Excellent stay, fantastic room and location, friendly and welcoming staff.

This is a superb hotel in the middle of Burgundy. We got a magnificent room in this very beautiful restored building. The small brasserie 'Botica', adjacent to the hotel, is partially run by disabled people and the profits also go to their organisation. It has a beautiful garden terrace bordering the Armançon river, next to the Burgundy Canal. This place is a real gem.

I cannot describe how good this place is. If you are traveling south or on the Canal de Bourgogne you must stay here. It is superb.

Beautiful setting by the river. Friendly welcoming staff & a delicious self service breakfast. Our room was huge with a gorgeous bathroom. We’ll definitely try & stay again in the near future.
