“Description of stay is not truth”

Great location. Beach to yourself. Gorgeous setting. Owner was really nice and helpful.

There are two small houses in a very green, well-kept garden. I stayed in one whole house and it had absolutely everything needed for a comfortable stay — kitchen, bathroom, comfortable beds, fans, all the basics. It felt very easy to live there. The owner is very kind and always ready to help. The place is right by the ocean, with an almost private beach where there are hardly any people. There is also a beautiful view of the old lighthouse building, and you can swim there. The town with shops is within walking distance. I had a wonderful time and hope to come back next year!

I was made to feel like part of the family. The cabin has everything you need and is right next to the beach – beautiful and perfect for enjoying the sunset! I had a meal with them; thank you so much for the excellent food and for all the open conversations on so many different topics. Thanks to them, I was able to discover more than I’d ever imagined I could in the single day I had there: a boat trip on the river (exploring a temple, seeing how cinnamon is processed, mangroves and so much more), a visit to the turtle conservation centre, and a tour of a semi-precious stone mine. I’ll be back with pleasure, and I won’t forget you! Thank you again for your kindness.

We have enjoyed for two days an excellent cabanas located in a very interesting spot on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. The cabanas are quite spacious, equipped with a kettle, kitchenware, and mosquito netting. Outside there are hammocks and tables. The beach is very secluded and wild, not many people pass by there. The corner is perfect to jump from the hammock into the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. A plot right on the beachfront and fenced for added security. Its trees—coconut palms, banana plants, etc.—provide the perfect coolness to the hammocks and rest areas, protecting them from the sun. At the same time, you have the river and lighthouse nearby, and just 2 kilometers away there's the mask museum. The price is very competitive for a cabana with these characteristics. The service is very good and family-friendly. We felt as at home.

The host was very accommodating to our needs and became like family to us. Both him and his family were so lovely and always made sure we were safe and had everything we needed. It is a beautiful place and had everything you would need for a lovely holiday in Ambalangoda :). The beach cabanna has the best sunset view, and an easy access directly into the beach.

I’d firstly like to say that if I could have given this 0, I would have. I never write bad reviews, unfortunately this is the first one. My family were on a trip here in Sri Lanka just recently. To give context, the last time I saw my parents and sister was more than 2 years ago, and we all live in different continents of the world (Japan, UK, Australia) so as you can understand I don’t see my family often, so it’s a very special time for us this occasion. Our last week, we wanted to stay in Ambalangoda, so we booked Sunset Beach Cabana for all of us for 5 days. Last minute notice, less than 24 hours before checking in, the host of this place texts us that the guests there have decided to extend their stay and we cannot move in there together anymore. We are completely appalled and enraged, so we call and he keeps suggesting that he can put us somewhere else ‘his brother has a place’ and that just because there was no prepayment online, that our reservation was not confirmed. We had tried our best to suggest he puts the current guests in his brother’s place instead because we had booked a long time before they decided they wanted to extend, and he made it very clear that he was unable to do that. He has made NO apology, no sense of remorse or understanding for our situation. My mother has travelled Sri Lanka 4 times now, and she said this is the worst experience with a host she has encountered here. We are beyond disappointed and it really put a lot of stress on finding a new place quickly that we could all stay together for our last week. I am shocked that a host could be so heartless, and we felt very powerless with the situation. This is the only thing we could share to enlighten others wanting to stay here. My mother who had booked for 3 of us with a separate booking here could not even write a review because her booking was cancelled and had to pay a cancellation fee.

The location is very good. It’s on the beach and still close to various shops and restaurants. The hammock area is amazing to watch the sunset

“Beautiful experience”

Our stay was very good! Everybody was very welcoming and kind. Silva and his son took us with their car to see the best places around, they helped us with everything we needed and were allways paying attention to our needs. His wife cooked amazing sri lankan food for us! The house is located on a beautiful wide beach, that we had just for ourselves. The house is equiped with a kitchen but the stove and the gas has to be payed separate (around 900 LKR) you can ask for a kettle at no cost. This was an amazing experience where we got the chance to connect with this beautiful local people that, in 2 days, became our srilankan adoptive family 😊 Thank you very much

The beach for me is in the top 5 in Sri lanka 🇱🇰 I have visited many coastal resorts in Sri Lanka around 30 in total. This place i loved. The owner and son are very friendly and serve excellent home cooked food at a reasonable price. I will be back for sure. The owner even came to the train station to see me off. 10/10. It is great to hear renovations to the bungalows have started and will make the place even more appealing. I am a people person so can deal with small imperfections. If you want a 5 star hotel then pay for one. For the price you will be happy. Lovely gardens also.

Very nice Place. In front of the beach. Magnificent sunsets. The super helpful staff took me to the attractions of the area and prepared a truly local dinner for me and the other guests,without have to go to the restaurant. I would return.

“Comvenient cabana with direct entrance to the beach”

The backyard has a direct entrance to a beautiful beach with teal water and bright sand. There are hammocks hanging from palm trees. Our host and his wife can make meals on demand and get better prices for groceries :-)
