I never write reviews but this time I had to make an exception. The apartment I was staying in (with a view on the castle) is great - cosy, clean and modern, so I quickly started feeling like at home. It is also well equipped. There are even washing tablets for washing your clothes and freezing bags for food - small things but those small things show the dedication of the owner to go an extra mile to make your stay worry-free. The owner is also very friendly and sincerely wants to make your stay a pleasant one (thank you for the wine, juice / water and the home-made jam - it was very tasty :) On top of that, the quiet village of Alken offers a relaxing experience in today's fast world. I certainly recommend a hike to the Thurant Castle via the Sankt Michaels-Kapelle and via a subsequent viewpoint because the views are great. In winter the castle is unfortunately closed for visitors but nevertheless it's still worth to see the castle up close.
