If you want to lose yourself in a dream of Taisho or Showa era, this is the place to go.

If you want to lose yourself in a dream of Taisho or Showa era, this is the place to go. What it may deliver could be beyond your expectation. However, if you just want a comfortable and convenient stay, it is probably not for you. For me, it was absolutely excellent!

Charming old fashioned Ryokan

It was a really charming experience! Yes, the Ryokan is not the most modern but makes up for this with its authenticity. The breakfast is delicious and the friendliness of the host is unbelievable! We were taken to the train station twice. Thank you for the experience!

Amazing stay. Beautiful and traditional ryokan. Quiet but close enough to the city. The owner went out of his way to help, which lifts to attractions, train station etc. My favourite stay in Japan so far, highly recommend.

Not the cleanest, but very traditional ryokan.

Very ancient ryokan, complete with paper sliding doors, tatami mats and futons - if you have never been in one, you are in for a treat! Absolutely enormous, with wooden corridors disappearing into the distance - it was a real labyrinth. It's obvious that nothing at all has changed in over 100 years there. Nice small onsen in the basement. Kind owner who gave me a lift up to one of the other onsens, plus a free packet of delicious biscuits when I left.

The best stay in Japan

The place was amazing in a small hot spring village. It gave me the authentic feel of living in a traditional ryokan. The hosts were amazing and very helpful. They were able to help prepare a vegan breakfast for me. The hostspring was also a really great add on. The place was quiet and overall amazing. The best stay for me in Japan

We arrived late in the evening and just stayed one night in order to visit Aizu Wakamatsu next day.

We were looking for accommodation in the Aizu Wakamatsu area. I would categorize it as Minshuku and good value for the price. It is run by three elderly gentlemen who are very friendly and helpful. One of them went out of the way to ask in the nearby restaurant if they were still OK to accept us rather late in the evening. It has it's own onsen in the basement, quite interesting climb 'down' there. Excellent breakfast in the morning served in a tatami room and very traditional style.

He was a very friendly owner and took care of me despite the last minute reservation. You can soak in the hot spring for twenty four hours. The breakfast was simple Japanese food, and the miso soup with mushrooms was very delicious. And most of all, it is very cheap. If you don't care about simple locks, sound leakage, old floors and hot springs, it will be the best retro and extraordinary experience.
