“Mizu no oto (Sound of water)”
The warm hospitality of the people who run the establishment, the exceptional culinary skills of the chef and his mother and the perfect serenity and peace of the location. The ryokan is 175 years old and has beautiful traditional rooms and dining rooms. Our room overlooked the rushing waters which we enjoyed when we took our hot spring baths in the 'ladies bathroom' and 'gentlemen's bathroom'. An added attraction is watching the flights of dragonflies past the windows of the room. Motoyu Arimaya is located very close to the last bus stop up the mountain.

“Traditional taste”
Traditional onsen hotel with nice decoration. Watching dinner stuff like fish and tofu cooked with firewood smoke by host is a special experience.

“Worth of going again….”
A very special and traditional, relatively small and personal ryokan. Highlights are the dining rooms, where the guests sit around (on tatami) traditional fire places. The food is partly roasted over charcoal. Although basic communication in English works, some knowledge of Japanese language and culture is very helpful. If you go there during the week, you can stay for a really attractive price…
