“A samurai-style ryokan centered around traditional charcoal hearth cuisine.”
This ryokan was once a residence of an upper-class samurai family in the Aizu domain during the late Edo period. The building is several hundred years old and still preserves its original wooden architecture, along with many historical antiques on display. The ryokan continues to use the irori hearth to serve traditional meals, such as grilled fish and local specialties. The staff prepare each dish individually over the charcoal fire using regional ingredients from Fukushima and Aizu. I especially loved the miso, which is one of the region’s specialties and appeared in almost every dish. I also tried horse sashimi for the first time — surprisingly delicious. It was incredibly tender and melted in the mouth almost like fish. I was hesitant at first, but ended up loving it. It was truly a very memorable and impressive experience.

“Amazing time”
Wonderful experience. We visited in the winter and the room was very warm, comfortable and clean. Sitting under the kotatsu while drinking tea was super pleasant. The establishment itself has a very traditional, historic japanese look, both inside and out, and is very well preserved and walking around it was a very memorable experience. The private bath was also great and soaking in it was very relaxing. The traditional japanese breakfast was served in front of an indoor fireplace and was delicious. The staff were very pleasant and hospitable and made the entire stay memorable. It was also snowing outside and a night walk around the surrounding area was very peaceful and felt quite magical.

“Could be interesting experience but no desire to repeat”
If you want a traditional experience with kotazu, nice mineral open air onsen this is a great choice. Onsen was good as well as the breakfast. I enjoyed sleeping on futon - it was comfortable and kotazu was sth I really wanted to try out. Also really liked wearing yukata in the hotel.

“Wonderful Irori dining experience and stay!”
Lovely traditional Ryokan with meals cooked and served sitting on the tatami floor around an Irori sunken fire. The staff attended to cooking the various courses over the hot coals and even breakfast was cooked this way. It was delicious and a great experience. Nice onsen and lovely staff and nostalgic old building.
