Wow .. what a beautiful place to stay . Down a small quiet lane , within walking distance to beach and shops . This place is a must stay. The rooms are huge , clean and comfortable . The staff are sooo sweet and helpful . They feel like family , and the gorgeous Patty ( the house dog ) always waiting at the gate for you or greeting you when you get out of your room in the morning . We loved her . The pool is huge and lovely to cool off in after a day at the beach or exploring .The gardens are so tranquil and the decor gorgeous .

Lovely accomodation close to city center but still very calm. For breakfast there is yoghurt, granola and fresh fruits. Staff is super friendly :-)

“Amazing!”

It’s like a peaceful oasis just outside of the busy city centre. The inside of the building and exterior are very beautifully designed and maintained. The location is perfect, just walking distance from Ahangama secret beach and a lot of nice cafés and restaurants. The rooms are very comfortable and spotless and the staff very friendly.

Such a beautiful property, complete with the best dog (Patty)! The room and all its features were stunning - loved all the little details. The shared areas and pool were also beautiful. The staff were so friendly and helpful too.

Luxurious four bedded period villa, tastefully designed both inside and out. Ideal location - an oasis of calm away from the busy street of Ahangama. Well maintained garden and pool, a wonderful connection to nature. Within walking distance of a beautiful quiet beach, perfect for sunrise swims. Some amazing local restaurants only a few minutes' walk away. Most helpful & friendly staff. Delicious daily breakfast of homemade granola & fresh fruit. Highly recommend!

“Beautiful place”

The merchant house is a very special place, secluded from the main busy road of Ahangama but within walking distance. The place is stunning, clean and the staff is beyond helpful.

I liked that they had just 3 rooms on the whole property so it was very cozy, not crowded at all. The common areas were very spacious and the kitchen was neat and clean. Felt comfortable, the staff was friendly.

“Beautiful, calm house with lovely people and lush garden”

Beautiful place, spacious luxurious rooms, super comfy bed! Garden and pool are great - no noise from the main road. We saw monkeys and beautiful birds in the garden! Staff is super friendly.

Absolutely wonderful stay! The building is gorgeous, the staff are amazing, and everything was spotlessly clean. The beds were incredibly comfortable, and the adorable dog on site was a delightful bonus. Highly recommended! Also, the place next door serves great breakfast / brunch.

“Beautiful place to unwind”

What an amazing place!!! The hotel is very aesthetic inside and outside the rooms. The pool and sitting area is beautiful and peaceful. The two dogs running around makes it feel like home. The bathroom was clean and spacious, the bed very comfortable with a mosquito net. The staff was very helpful and in the background. We felt very relaxed here and loved our stay! We would definitely come back.

Second review in one trip. We loved it so we booked for more days even though there is plenty of properties to stay in Sri Lanka, the Merchant House ticked all the boxes for us. It feel Like home, it offers simple breakfast to be made yourself, tea and coffee, and cleaning service, and you can feel very secluded and private in there. We got very attached to the dogs, and the staff guys are super nice.

It’s amazing villa, so relaxing and stylish, we extended our stay 3 times. Out favourite doggy Fedi, we miss her so much!

Everything was exactly like portrayed in the pictures. Super clean rooms and swimming pool. Very quiet area which is a really nice contrast to the noisy beach vibe.
