Lovely property surrounded by nature

The location was quite nice. Food was reasonable. Overall an average stay but nothing exceptional.

Place I arrived late at night so didn't see the overall place. The room was not great and felt very humid. Bed quite uncomfortable, pillow and sheet with stains, not sure if it was mosquitoes or something else, 2 of the pillows had mold behind. Whilst I was in the room I had the impression of being in a box filled with insect and had to keep the air conditioning turned on the whole night otherwise the mosquitos would bite me. Bathroom had a terrible smell, which I know it can be sewage problem but again there was a massive hole in the wall where the ventilation fan was, that didn't help with the insect issue. I think a net over the bed or a wall insect repellent is mandatory. I didn't sleep at all which was really frustrating as I had an early wake up for the safari. Also although everyone was very smiley and nice, I had basically close to zero communication with the owner/manager the month preceding the booking, when asking for tour confirmation.  Safari: I booked a whole day safari through the property. I think overall it was very overpriced for what I got. The driver was super good at spotting wildlife, however I was expecting a greater area coverage, as I felt the whole time we circled around the same zone. The jeep was very uncomfortable as quite old, my seat completely detached and broke down at one point. Considering the country food standard, the breakfast and lunch provided were again very bland and disappointing. They didn't even include forks or spoon to eat the food. The safari overall was not a complete disaster (praise for the driver) but being unconfortable whilst sleep deprived, after having paid such a considerable sum, just didn't feel right. I'm still giving 7/10 as the area and the property have been affected by the recent floods. In addition to this all the staff has been extremely kind caring and helpful since my arrival

Wilpattu Green Cabin is set in an amazing location, situated on the bank of a local river and surrounded by palms and local rice fields. If you like nature this is a place for you. The local birds are plentiful and a wide variety of from eagles to beautiful coloured birds Bee Easter’s. The safari offered has been our best activity in Sr Lanka. The staff were very knowledgeable and we saw a wide range of animals and birds, from Leopards, elephants, crocodiles, mongoose, deer etc. etc. The food was also exceptional with very kind and thoughtful staff. I would highly recommend a visit to Wilpattu and the Green Cabin.

“Fantastic value for money, relaxing, green, and beautiful.”

Tranquil location with a great look out over the lake. Perfect for a slow green morning. Has hammocks, a barge and an outside dining area. The staff were attentive and very kind. We did the full day Wilpattu tour which was super easy to arrange. Amazing value for money.

Fantastic location - tranquil, by the river and surrounded by nature, fields and smallholdings. Walking distance to a huge lake and the whole area is a birdwatchers paradise. Monkeys coming past throughout the day in the treetops. Even a mongoose strolling past our room. Close to a small village for food and supplies. Few minutes up the road to the west entrance of Wilpattu NP. Our large room was great with air con, huge comfy bed and bathroom with towels and sheet provided. Most importantly our host Rishwan and the lovely Hassan and his friend made us so welcome during our stay - organising trips, food and drinks. We loved getting to know you all, thank you for an amazing experience! We loved it so much we went on to their new place Mihintale Green Cabin- recommend that too!

Amazing place! Like you have stepped into The Jungle Book. The river is peaceful and the small village is really cool. They helped us to organise a safari the next day in Wilpattu, where we saw leopards, elephants, monkeys, and incredible birds. Kind and friendly owners and staff.

“Absolutely incredible!”

We loved everything about our stay here. The staff were amazing and really helpful when we requested anything. They organised a whole day safari (highly recommend!) with homemade breakfast, lunch, drinks and snacks provided. We had rooms with porches overlooking the river which was really relaxing. They had swings and hammocks etc too. The rooms were clean and comfortable with towels and toiletries provided and a mosquito net! The food was lovely too, one night we had kothu from a nearby restaurant and the other we had a variety of veg curries and rice. They don't provide other drinks, but they were ok with us bringing our own. Note- the safari entrance ticket payment is cash only and in LKR.

The only thing we liked was the boy who welcomed us he was so nice, polite, helpful and genuinly a very good person. Everything else - tragic

“A beautiful family-owned place surrounded by nature”

I had a wonderful stay with Riswan and his family. They truly care about offering the best possible experience to their guests and sharing the beauty of their region. They even managed to organize a last-minute safari for me at a very reasonable price, especially considering how well the day went (great driver, breakfast + lunch included) – $50 for a half day, $95 for a full day. As for the wildlife, I was lucky not only in the park but also around the village where the guesthouse is located. It’s not uncommon to see one or even several elephants passing by – though of course, that’s up to Mother Nature! Overall, a fantastic experience. A big thank you to Riswan and his brother for their kindness and for taking the time to help me plan my route. Good to know: there’s a local bus that runs from the village to Puttalam for 150 LKR, 1h, starting around 7 AM, with connections to many other destinations from there.

“Beautiful setting, food and rooms”

Beautiful setting and lovely, comfortable rooms. We enjoyed delicious home cooked Sri Lankan food. Rishwan was a helpful host and arranged a safari at a reasonable price. We had to travel to the further gate due to flooding but it was worth it as we saw 4 leopards and a sloth bear, countless birds and other mammals in this beautiful park. A walk around the area surrounding the accommodation is well worth it. There is lots of bird life to enjoy.

Rizwan was so helpful and the food was fantastic. The room was basic but comfortable and the host went out of his way to help us, even giving us a lift to our next location. The setting is beautiful. There are new tree houses in the grounds which look fantastic. The cabins offer a lovely boat trip with opportunities to see many wonderful birds including eagles and kingfishers.

Immersed in nature, in front of the river and a few kilometers from the entrance of the park. Very wild place, and a walk away from a beautiful lake. The hosts are welcoming and locals.

It's right by Wilpattu park. Unfortunately we couldn't go into the park because it was closed (floods) but the guys gave us (4) a guided tour of the area which was great. We saw loads of birds. They also have a lake/river tour.

We had a nice stay. Room and food were good and the safari in wilpattu was very nice.
