“Warm welcome from the family at Matsuo House”

I had a very pleasant time staying with Taka and Oraphin, and little Yui! They made me feel very much at home in their family home, gave me great recommendations for making the most of my visit to Zao Onsen, and were even kind enough to let me join them on a trip to the crater lake. For a cosy, friendly place to stay in Zao Onsen I thoroughly recommend Matsuo House.

Absolutely amazing. The hosts are the loveliest people and really welcome you into their home. They take a lot of effort into making sure that you're enjoying your stay in Zao Onsen. They show you the layout of the town and give great recommendations for various activities that you'd like to do. I felt really cared for. It's a true authentic Japanese experience. Highly recommend!

“Warm, welcoming family and great value for skiing at Zao Onsen”

Great kitchen and lunge facilities, which are shared with the family who own the property. They are wonderful, welcoming people and go out of their way to help with anything they can. They even helped me with adjusting my ski bindings, unexpectedly! There is a public onsen right next door and they gave us tickets to use it.

The owners was extremely friendly and helpful, and their English skills were excellent. The atmosphere was cosy and the location was perfect! We would definitely recommend you staying here!

“A cosy home in the hills :)”

Taka and Oraphin and their little girl were amazing. Matsuo House is a gorgeous little traditional Japanese house. The area is very peaceful and is a few minutes from a convenience store, and literally 20 seconds from a free Onsen. I spent my evenings eating in the living room with Taka and Oraphin, watching Japanese tv and having wholesome chats. It really did feel like I was at home.

Zao onsen is a beautiful town, a great place to go skiing but our stay was memorable thanks to the big kindness of Oraphin and Taka. They are such beautiful people, willing to help you and to make sure you have everything you need. We bring back home wonderful memories and we wish to come back. Thanks again!

The historical Matsuo house is located in the center of town wity easy access to the cable lifts, onsens, restaurants, rental shops, and the convenience store. It was a pleasure to stay here, and to interact with the Matsuo family and other guests at their home.

The home is cozy and the room warms up very quickly so it’s no problem to stay during the winter. it is also nice that it is possible to use the kitchen. and it is close to the slopes and to all the onsens.
