Overview
With a boutique spa and magnificent gardens, Middlethorpe Hall & Spa offers award-winning food and scenic views. The hotel overlooks York Racecourse, and is just 2 miles from the historic city centre. The elegant bedrooms are decorated with antiques, and many have views of the grounds. All rooms feature a flat-screen TV and a private bathroom with fluffy robes and free toiletries. Guests can relax in the indoor swimming pool, spa bath, sauna or steam room. There is also a gym in the Victorian summer house, and the grounds feature leafy terraces and fragrant orchards. The grand restaurant features panelled walls and garden views, and guests can enjoy creative British cuisine by candlelight. The menus feature fresh local produce and ingredients from the kitchen garden. Built in 1699, the historic Middlethorpe Hall is now part of the National Trust and all profits are donated to the charity. The hotel is just a 5-minute drive from York Minster, and offers free on-site parking.

We recently stayed at Middlethorpe Hall & Spa for a few days and had an excellent experience from start to finish. During our stay we made full use of the spa facilities, which were relaxing and well maintained. The hotel itself is beautiful, with lovely grounds and a peaceful atmosphere. The food was outstanding throughout our stay, with both dinner and breakfast of a very high standard. What really made the visit special was the staff, who were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and always willing to help.

Breakfast was okay apart from eggs not cooked properly. Poached eggs were hard. The silver teapot tea were is okay apart from they are old and not pouring properly.

Oh my goodness, their GARDENS! Absolutely stunning and a beautiful place to sit and relax. It was lovely to be able to use the pool too and I squeezed a couple of swimming visits in each day. It's the first time in a long time where I have properly relaxed – the gardens were a huge part of this for me and they are even more stunning in real life. The hotel is well appointed, if rather dated in style, and the staff were all super friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back at some point!

Excellent stay from start to finish. Everything was absolutely perfect, and the attention to detail truly made a difference. “A relaxing stay in a beautiful old Hall”
A wonderful property with that special country house feel. Very friendly and obliging staff. Although the grounds extend to the A64 road there is no traffic noise inside the property. We loved our cosy room in the courtyard annex a short distance from the Hall. Very good choice for breakfast.

What an amazing hotel. It’s like stepping back to Downton times. We were upgraded to a suite. Spa small but excellent. Food first class in panelled dining room. Felt like luxery.
