A Rocha Ecocamp is located at a beautiful spot in the middle of Watamu's well-conserved nature. You can learn about the eco conservation activities there and are only 3 minutes away from the beach, where you will be alone most of the time (when its low season). Also: amazing for night swims (at your own risk but I'm a solo female traveler and I was fine). There's even a small forest and a rooftop where there's absolute peace. Definitely a must-do is a trip to Mida Creek with one of their guides, you can canoe through the mangrove channels there by sunset and learn about mangrove conservation.

A humble, nature-centered stay, while international travelers are made aware of minimal facilities

The property is very close to a calm, quiet beach, and the ocean views from the rooms are truly breathtaking. The nature trail is well maintained, and the small forest with its ample tree cover keeps the area pleasantly cool and noticeably more comfortable than surrounding locations. The staffs are helpful and professional, consistently ensuring guest comfort and readily providing care and information when needed. Dinner offerings are moderate, but well prepared and enjoyable, with special appreciation to the chef for accommodating preferences and arranging alternative options as required.

Lovely team! Family spirit, warm welcome (I wasn't registered for lunch that day but had arrived earlier and was invited to join everyone). The place has a direct access to the beach, and a fantastic pristine one! Rooms are simple, but has all you need. Its clean. Cozy relaxing atmosphere, great people. I will definitely come back!

Come for the beach and forest, stay for the conversation - and conservation

Super friendly team and eclectic mix of international guests and conservation volunteers to meet eating together at breakfast, lunch and dinner (if needed - they were very relaxed when we ate elsewhere or arrived late). Lots of fascinating chat. Basic rural-style rooms, good WiFi, working fans and a really special atmosphere. Church service option onsite on Sunday morning and lots of activities (they helped us arrange boat ride to snorkel and see dolphins, and we were dropped on the stunning beach outside afterwards). Sea swimming in minutes every morning. Delicious home cooked food - a whole red snapper one evening, and pancakes every morning. Cynthia, Betty and the team were a total delight even when only there for a few nights (some stay for months).

Extraordinary place in Kenya. From day 1 you are like part of the family, however if you would rather spend your time alone that is also perfectly fine. Superb food that you eat together with the other guests and volunteers . Love the place and especially their projects.

I loved the way you feel included in the team by eating the meals with the "family" and everybody is so kind!

Location - Watamu for one is a good holiday place then, proximity to the beach - 2 minutes max walking at normal pace. Clean, quite, beach for that matter. Minimal Beach Boys. Also like the communal eating!

Excellent location close to the beach. Very nice and friendly staff. The standard of the facilies is certainly not luxurious but quite enough for a beach holiday with a lot of activities available around.

Travel with economy.

It was a home away from home kind of vacation, had a very genuine setting where all visitors feels included especially during meals where everyone sits at one table and enjoys the delicious meals prepared by the chefs. The whole team was a 10/10 P.S if you are into volunteering programs like marine or beach clean-up then A Rocha is your place

Ethically sound, community friendly

Very special place. You need to buy into the ethos, value and sense of community. It’s a rare find. Not at all like some of the more pretentious places on the coast.

Nice place, great location, but not recommendable if you are not looking for close-knit community.

The room was nice and we were close to the beach. While we did not have an AC, the breeze from the ocean and the fan were enough to keep it cool during the night. The food was great. The staff responded quickly to inquiries.
