“Disappointing and hope the floors get a good scrub for future guests”
In comparison with the photos, it was clear the property had become run down. It was extremely dirty when we arrived. The floors were sticky and evidently had not been cleaned. Our children walking around in socks had black feet from the dirt on the floor and carpets. There was a general bad smell of damp. The terrace area was filthy also. The outdoor table was weather damaged and covered in black scum. The BBQ area was also with rubbish and boxes around it. The plants were overgrown and the garden furniture broken or missing in comparison to the photos. Many of the kitchen utensils were broken and left unwashed from previous use. The oven and hob were difficult to use and there were no instructions. The toilets blocked. There was no toilet roll or any dishwasher tablets etc left. These are basic things you have available for guests staying only a couple of nights. This was also especially a concern as the house should be hygienically ready for all new guests in line with Covid-safe policies. It was clear there had been little cleaning done at all between guests. There was nothing in the house to inform guests about the property - such as a welcome book/guide. We had to figure out everything ourselves. Even though the house was advertised with wifi internet (even on the plaque at the entrance to the property), there was no internet at all. We asked the owners by phone and they rudely replied that it was a small town so we should not expect there is internet. This was completely inadequate - especially with 3 children and it was an aspect we checked was available when making the booking. It is the 21st century and it is possible to have internet coverage easily. We stayed in a holiday house close-by 2 years ago and there was no issue with wifi in that house or with the facilities and cleanliness and it was in the same “small town.” It was so disappointing after having made the booking several months ago. The house was not at all what we expected.
