Great service and breakfast! Don Vicente and the other staff took really good care of us and the other guests. Many thanks! We were given a nicer lodge than the one in the booking photo. We booked this also for location which was great (central and close to observatory, yet secluded).

The owner was fantastic. We are vegan and vegetarian and he went through all meals with us to make sure we were happy with what we would get and that he was making enough food for us. The hostel is about 1km from the main village but it’s very walkable both during the day and at night. Would highly recommend this place if you are going to the Tatacoa.

“Lovely host in a deserted hotel”

Deep in the Tatacoa desert lies El Penon. Prepared to host dozens of guests we were the only ones. The aftermath of COVID is still very vivid - less people travel. Our room was in top of an old water tower with a great view of the surrounding. Bkfst is very basic as is the room. The host lives there alone and there is no grocery store nearby.

The property is quite big and has a large swimming pool that is perfect for cooling off in the blistering desert heat. Our room gave us a nice view of the surroundings and had a nice bathroom.

The hostel is located in the middle of the dessert and offers an amazing view into Tatacoa. Our room offered both extreme comfort and privacy. The hostels’ owner is a very compassionate and sweet man who took great care of us. We had an absolutely amazing time.

Very friendly staff, breakfast is nothing spectacular but still very tasty. You're sleeping in the middle of the desert, in the nature. Nice spot to watch stars at night, it is extremely quiet during the night. Pool was also nice and clean.

It’s worth making the effort to continue on from Villavieja to get to this little oasis in the Tatacoa desert. You’ll be rewarded with your own little hut, great views, very little light pollution affording you the luxury of seeing the stars and waking up to the sound of bird calls. There’s a small swimming pool for a refreshing dip. Vincente is very friendly. Good WiFi service in the reception area. I’d definitely recommend staying here for a full Tatacoa desert experience. There are some tour companies that will drive out to pick you up from the hotel.

The cabins were beautifully constructed. Theres a net you can lie on to look at the stars. The breakfast was okay too. We drove there and they locked our car in an enclosure which felt safe, but also worrying because of the negativea

Mr. Vicente prepared delicious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner :). He prepared traditional dishes and combined with exquisite flavors. The fruity refreshments of sugar cane, pineapple and lemons were outstanding.

Beautifully located hostel in Tatacoa desert, between red desert (Cuzco) and grey desert (Los Hoyos). Our host was amazing and a great cook. Would recommend!
